PS2 read errors
Discussion
If you can wield a screwdriver and a can of air duster you'll probably be able to fix it,
1. If you turn the ps2 over and remove the 4 rubber feet and the little plastic feet
2. Underneath you will find some screws unscrew them all and take the top section of the case off
3. Now to the right of the ps2 will be the dvd/cd drive, on top of the drive will be 4 small screws, unscrew them all and remove the lid
4. Now you should be able to see the laser, use the can of air duster to give the box a good cleaning out, now follow the instructions in reverse to re-assemble

Had it a while?
What often happens is that the laser is suspended on a soft metal arm, this arm over time bends and the laser drops out of operating range from the disc and you get the disc read error.
You can crack it open and bend the arm back, easy fix, theres a step by step guide on the web somewhere.

Try this website, step-by-step guide of how to adjust/align the Laser - worked on my kids PS2, but it could just be dirt on the lens.

Same guide I used to sort my PS2 out, its easy to follow and works wonders, realigned the laser and gave it a good clean out at the same time. Solved all my DRE problems
