The GTA 4 CHATTER Thread
Discussion
The annoying thing is that they aren't doing anything. When they do look at it it'll be turned around in about 3 hours. It'll then sit around waiting for UPS to pick up their batch for up to a week.
Fingers crossed UPS don't screw you around. They added 3 days to mine by messing up on the return.
FWIW, my PS2 died the day of San Andreas release, after I'd done the midnight release thing, so I sorta understand the pain. When mine died, I walked out the door, nipped over the road to woolies and grabbed a PS2 slim. Only cost me 20 mins .

Take Two are making all the retailers sign an embargo so that no-one gets hold of it until Tuesday (obviously different for Scorp) so no-one can ship it until Monday at the earliest.
No doubt to whip everyone into a mouth-frothing frenzy come Tuesday morning.Yeah, I think I'm going to cancel my shopto order for the normal version, keep the special edition I've got with Zavvi and then head down to Asda at midnight, that way I'm guaranteed to be able to play from whenever I wake up the next morning (likely to be around 4:30 when I finally admit I won't be able to get any sleep).
There's a nice interview here with the art director:
http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/868/868124p1.ht...
Couple of pretty interesting points, especially about the size of the city:
In terms of land mass, GTA IV's Liberty City is three times as large as GTA III's, but this time around it's much more dense and varied.
When asked about how textures and details were done: "We took around a quarter of a million photos and a silly amount of video footage...I have 20 DVDs of traffic flows at random junctions at various times of the day sitting on my desk here as an example, and a few hours of footage of a night in a Russian supper club."
Three times as large as GTA3? I can't remember ever thinking to myself that the city in GTA3 was small, so 3 times the size should take a fair while to memorise.

New york cabbies will have an advantage!
That's if the city is true to the road layout.
1 week to go!!
I think the roads are approximately the same, in a broad sense, but not exactly. That's if the city is true to the road layout.

From living in LA for a while, San Andreas is generally a 'similar' layout. On a wider scale, the airport by the coast etc is correct, and even things like the correct bends in the right place on Sunset and Hollywood boulevards are about right. If you look closely you can also see the Chinese Theatre and also the Capitol Records Building.
What they miss out is the smaller side streets and a lot of the detail in between.
I am not sure it will give much of an advantage to be honest, in fact the similarity yet differences may even throw you!
Phone line set up Friday 25th. Can phone for broadband sunday 27th for man to come set it up Friday 2nd May.
Got to do the driving (car wise) on a Golf day 8th May FFS. How very dare work get in the way of gaming. Everything's conspiring against me!

When i first drove in the states (in LA) i used the mental picture of playing GTA-SA to stay on the correct side of the road. From living in LA for a while, San Andreas is generally a 'similar' layout. I need to be sure of when to book my holiday off this time as HR won't appreciate me cancelling it 3 times in sucession Also it'll be annoying having to drive people lah-de-dah style to a Golf course & that. I'll be sat there wanting to get home not sat in a car.
