When you get tired of driving games...

I played BV's redecessor, Battlefield 1942 for months and loved it. The new game has *much* more vegetation which completely changes the nature of the "excursions." Now if you want to live a while, you really need to do a lot more sneeking about. Since the newer weapons are more lethal, it tends to encourage that.

Only played it for a couple days, but I can see this is going to be a real time-sink. It really is that good.

I was looking at some pre release screen shots a bit back (posted on hear a bit back I think) and it looked amasing. In particular there was a shot of a phantom F4 flaying over dropping bombs and some burning houses in the back ground.

been playing it the whole weekend along with UNREAL 2004

Have to say both games are awesome!!!

Battlefield Vietnam is very atmospheric.. great music and very involving.
UT2004..graphically stunning and very slick
Both essentially multiplayer.

Now I need to get my gaming machine back even more. I have copies of both UT2004 and BF1942 sitting around waiting for me to play them.

I've been playing this a fair bit too. Excellent game, the increased greenery really does make the gameplay different from 1942.

Need to learn how to fly the helicopters, seems easier than Desert Combat at least though.

peterpeter was that you I saw on one of the Jolt servers the other day??

That's mental. Just bought Battlefield Vietnam, Unreal 2004 and Far Cry, and thought I would post my thoughts. As usual, the PH massive have been there and beat me to it

Battlefield Vietnam is excellent. Stunning graphics compared to the vast plains of the desert editions. Loads more detail, better AI, much more vehicles, with everything from a Chinook to a scooter! I have learnt to fly and land a chopper (well in a straightish line anyway) You can even pick up a tank and transport it to the battle I was so impresed I have set up another 4 PC's on the LAN, WITH a dedicated server to run them, so my mates can join in every Wednesday. Last Wednesday we were still playing at 04-30 and some had to go to work that day.

I have patches for no-CD, Keygen, and change-key etc, as I will be *ucked if I am gonna buy the game over and over if I want to run it on my home network. I also have a server patch that allows you to connect to all the punkbuster servers as well as the 'cracked' servers, using your original bought CD key - very useful as most of the cracked servers offer better hosting, with less lag and faster ping times. If you require these, mail me with a return email adddress and I will send you a copy along with the server list Hell I am almost thinking of permanently leasing a fast games server.

Unreal 2004 - mental. I havent had this much fun since I set fire to my neighbours shed (it was an accident). The best yet. I took it back initially, as the book of words implied that there was more than one disk, but the girl only gave me one. She later pointed out the disk was a DVD, and required 5.5 Gigabytes of space to install As for Far Cry, I havent even loaded it yet, as I have been glued to Vietnam. Has anyone noticed that the voice over on the radio is none other than Robin Williams? Also the propaganda is hilarious..especially the bit about 'stinking ship' and GI Joe pure class.

I am a Sys Admin and I have found it hard to justify spending my own time on a PC for games when compared to a console until now. With the new games however, there is simply no contest. What sort of console could compete with the required 5.5 Gigabyte of storage, a recomended 2Ghz Cpu 512meg of RAM and 128Meg of graphics (or even 256)?

I highly recommend this game.

That's a mistake

I purchased the same 3 games over the weekend and Far Cry has taken pretty much all my attention.

So, if you were to buy only one of these games for both online and offline play, which would it be?

I'm 'Dogflaps' on bf vietnam, so if you see me, feel free to shoot me in the head. its a damn good game tho, easier to kill people than the last one. managed to get 43 kills in one game over the weekend (the power of beer was strong with me that evening)

Well I went and bought BF Vietnam last night and in 3 hours managed 10 minutes of play.

Damn graphics corruption and slow playing.

I've got a 3Ghz P4, 512 MB RAM and a GForce 5700 Ultra. I've updated the drivers for everything and still can't get it to play right.

Damn you!

Did a quick search on the official forums and only came up with one sensible result for graphics corruption on 5700

http://boards.ea.com/messages?14@169.qaf1a1BBc7m.3@.2cdbc59b

Low fps could be related to that or it could well be to do with the sound. Changing from EAX to 2d positional Audio is the most common fix, but I've found just reducing the number of sound channels in BF from 64 to 32 works for me.

Ahh, I did try one fix to change something in default.con to do with sound, but that made no difference.

I thought today that I didn't do a full unistall of the nvidia drivers before installing the new ones, and that I should try that too.

I'll try these tonight, ta.

Getting there, the sound changes didn't help neither did the uninstall of the nvidia driver.

But, I've played with the graphics setting and am slowly getting it to run better all the tim.

Make sure you turn antialiasing and Anisotropic filtering OFF in the graphics card control panel
Also set textures to medium in game. Apparently full textures dont work with ATI cards. (It looks bloody great with medium dont worry)
