is it worth buying a ps3 for? i loved gt4, but then went down the xbox route. this game is the only thing that could tempt me back to sony.
Since you liked GT4, I would say yes, as long as you accept it as an evolution of GT4 and not a 'new era' of gaming many hoped it would be.As has been said before, it's beaten in almost every individual respect (i.e. damage, tuning, design, even graphics), but for me it's the best all-rounder (despite many frustrating niggles) and has the best handling on a console 'sim'. It'll certainly keep me entertained for a long while...

I love how GT Fanboys have now realised it isn't the second coming and now say it's an improvement in every area... Funny how other games like GT4, Forza 1, 2 and 3 never had the majority of the fanbase admitting it was poopy.
Can recommend Logitech G25 or G27 and the wheel stand pro for this (Be sure to switch to pro or simulated under whell settings). I'm loving the haters on this game. Proper damage modeling doesn't even kick in 'till level 40 and the AI also ramps up considerably later on.... I'm sure alot of muppets who have traded it will be kicking themselves. lol.
I'd love to put that fella who thinks he's 'above' gaming (in 2010!!) through a few laps of the 'ring on my set up with all driver aids off. He'd soon realise that 'kids' factor very little in the design of these games. Actually, I think the force feedback on my wheel would probably snap a kids arms clean off....

Polyphony confirmed that the damage modelling doesn't change with the levels, on the standard cars it's minimal, premium cars is better and the best you'll get is on the premium racing cars.Shinobi said:

Genuine question; why are you posting on this thread?
I got the game and was initially disapointed with it, the reasons I was disapointed are still there, and I am not finding it tedious and noticing more bugs... The graphics are no where near as good as everyone makes out, premium cars look amazing, but the road textures, backdrops, spectators, edges of all the cars in smoke, shadows are all terrible.
Its a good game, but I would only give it 7/10.
Forza 3 still drives more realisticaly, has better graphics on everything (with the exception of GT5 premium cars, of which there are not that many) The crash damage is great on forza (GT5 you can still use a wall to go round a corner with no ill effect.)
If your considering buying a PS3 for this game, just dont. its not worth it, if your considering it because of Unchartered 1 and 2, MGS 4 and some other games then yes, they make it worth it.
Personally if I was buying a consol for 1 driving game and 1 alone, I would get a 360 and Forza 3, then Forza 4 at the begining of next year.
Hopefully the updates will sort out GT5.
Oh one last point, dont bother buying a surround system for GT5, the car sound effects are weak, very weak. High in the revs they just drone, there isnt even any echo in tunnels.

Not played Forza but does it really have better physics? I can't fault anything about that aspect of GT5.
The low res buffers for shadows and smoke/spay are there because of hardware limitations, I'd rather have slightly ugly shadows than reduced fields of cars.
My main gripes are:
- Slow menus
- Can't invite people to online races (power and weight limits are a very welcome patch addition though!)
- Lack of flow in events (winning tends not to give you are car which you can progress with)
- Elusive 2nd hand cars!
The event might not change (although they may add more later?), the menus are probably as fast as they can be but the other issues should be simple to address.
Good stuff:
- Physics
- When actually racing online is pretty good.
- Premium cars look amazing
- After initial disappointment at lack on new tracks I feel right and home and love the revamped classics.
- Sound is immense on certain cars - try a '69 Camaro with full race exhaust
