how do you get this sort of shot, is it a case of hang out the window and hope for the best or do you use some sort of rig?

Great capture - I don't suppose it was planning to hang around. If you get another chance it would be good to see the effects of a touch of fill flash - though thinking about that at the time is, in my experience of sudden unexpected opportunities, unlikely.

I used my magic arm and one of my suckers. The set up shot is here: http://yfrog.com/z/h75fnabmj(Note I changed the lens after I took this setup shot to a wider lens)
It is very wobbly so one shot in 20 is sharp. I need to dampen it with something - a bungee or something maybe.
Great shots all! Off to a great start with Part 2
here's the exif for that shot:
Camera Canon EOS 40D
Exposure 0.2 sec (1/5)
Aperture f/25.0
Focal Length 13 mm
ISO Speed 100

I have the manfrotto suction mount, very sturdy indeed! You will need a remote of sorts, and a wide angle lens (I used the 10-22mm). Just drive at around 5mph.2003 Mercedes-Benz CLK55 AMG by xrrr, on Flickr
