Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM - Lens?
Discussion
I ordered one of these last Thursday from www.adorama.com for $1300 plus $70 freight. Received it yesterday (Monday) after being able to track its progress online via UPS and paid £200 duty, VAT and insurance to the driver on arrival.Works out to about £950. Shame was , I was in the US a couple of weeks ago but nowhere near a discount camera shop.Anyway I can highly recommend this outfit and now I've used them will be ordering a few more bits in the next few days.
All the big courier co's a tight on this sort of thing these days in my experience.
What I do find particularly irritating is that even after buyinng from a regular retail outlet in the US, and paying all dues, the lens still comes out significantly cheaper than you can get it in the UK.
I'm all for shops making some manner of profit, but it would seem that there are rather large margins being made by someone here at the UK customer's expense - either Canon or the middle men.

Yes, as Murph says, all the importing courier firms act as tax collectors so I was expecting it. It is still about £200 less than I could source it in this country , so I feel as though I've got a bit of a result. When I was in the US, the only camera shop nearby was Rich's Cameras and they wanted the equivalent of about £1075 , including wanting to charge £50 extra to ship from another branch as they didn't have it stock!
