Nice shot. Did you post these on an automotive photography group on Facebook by any chance? Pretty sure I saw this on there the other day.

And for the studio photos, a web resolution doesn't really do them justice... I shot them on the new Fuji GFX100, which is a bloody incredible camera. Each car was shot individually to maximise resolution, then I added the background to add a bit of space around the cars. Ended up 30k pixels wide!

I only had half a day to shoot the blue car (1 day for the white car) and only 1 day to retouch, so there are a few imperfections which would have been sorted with more time, but here's a closer look in full res:

I much prefer your on location work, The studio stuff looks a bit artificial to me. The nighttime shots look stunning!

That is the nature of studio work. I've given up with trying to make it uber realistic and now treat it more as an opportunity to create something a bit more artistic which shows off the cars.

The corkscrew is a great place to shoot a car. US version of Eau Rouge.

Great pics.

question ....

I have ( "had" as my 16 year old has nicked it on a permanent basis ) a d500. He likes to shoot rolling shots at the weekend and this can involve hanging out of a car window to get the movement on the road. His insta is below

https://www.instagram.com/charliemp/

Due to how he has to hold the camera, he often uses live view which isn't fantastic nor very responsive on a DSLR and so, like yesterday, he ends up with quite a lot of misses in terms of focus. Of course, part of this is being buffeted whilst shooting at 1/40s but sometimes the camera focus is miles out

Does anyone have experience of the d500 ? Can the focus be locked in live view ? Is there a mode to achieve more consistent results ? Should I try back-button AF ?

... the only way you will improve hit rate is by doing it "properly" out the back boot of a car tbh... out of the side window will always be hit and miss... or get a rig setup...

Thanks for the reply - that'd suit situations when we have a shoot organised ( and he's shot from the boot before like the yellow 1 series on his instagram) but that's not always possible as we attend numerous "drive-meets" where people ask for shots on the motorway...

He's doing alright based on his IG. I personally don't think Instagram lends itself to "proper" photography because of the square format and brutal compression.

A decent hit rate just comes with practice, practice and more practice. Throwing away 20 blurry ones for one half decent one was for me just part of developing as a photographer.

Does your friend own a white MX5, a red RS4 estate and one other car that sits in an air bubble by any chance?
