My kid has just turned 4, I love running so our compromise is that I go out very, very early on weekend mornings for my long runs, I'm usually out of the house at 6am (he wakes around 6.30 most days) and back by 9am at the latest. That way it doesn't disrupt anything, and I get beautiful morning views when it finally gets light!
