- Your Top 5 from 2013 -
Discussion
Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen the the Photography 'n Video section's 4th annual "Your Top 5 From..." thread!
As per usual - this isn't a competition, just a celebration of your photographic year.
You don't have to choose your most popular shots, just the 5 (and only 5!) you like the best from the last 12 months
Always nice to see the great work that's been produced by the many photographers on PH during the year
(previous threads: 2012, 2011, 2010)
So, to kick things off...

I can best describe my photography this year as depressed (not me, I mean the subject matter), as after having such an abundance of natural beauty to explore in California, Oregon & Washington in the last 3 years China has seemed, emmmm, how to put this....grey!
Even though I've visited over 50 locations/places in the last 8 months I feel, in the most part, as though the pictures I'm taking are more like "holiday snaps" and that in itself is annoying, even the shots that I spend hours waiting for just the right light don't have that same POP as the likes of my shots from Mount St Helens, Crater Lake, Yosemite etc...
An early morning sunrise shot over Plymouth harbour kicked things off for me back in January

Then during my first visit to Shanghai the mist rolling in over the famous skyline helped me bag this one

Two shots in the months which followed from the top observation deck of the Shanghai World Financial Centre, 475m up above the city floor

And in the last few weeks, as the year is drawing to a close I finally got the chance to head out into some of the REAL countryside that China has to offer, Mount Emei (which if you guys have watched an idiot abroad you will know from the huge 157ft high gold statue of the Buddha Samantabhadra on top of the mountain and the thousands of steps up and down if you don't take the cable car, or the "shoulder taxi" from the locals).
While there I managed to (1) freeze my fingers and toes off at over 3000m up in the ice and snow covered mountain paths, and (2) have a great laugh at the Tibetan Macaque's which were pilferring everything possible from the passing tourists. This one may not be my best shot of the year, but it was shot during my favourite weekend spent in China this year and made up for all the insanity I've had to endure for the last 8 months.

There are lots of photos to come from my visits to Mount Emei and Beijing in the weeks which follow into new year...

What a great start to this thread, quality work!
These are probably my favourites, the first one was a definite selection the others I could spend ages deliberating over so just picked the first four that jumped out at me

Been an odd year for me, spent a lot of time doing photo related stuff and not so much shooting as I would like! But that was planned somewhat, with seascape and astro workshops, new website and a lot of printing etc.
First up is a seasacape panoramic from Australia, about the only decent (shooting) conditions in a weeks holiday.
Apollo Bay Storm by robjdickinson, on Flickr
And another seascape at my local beach a few min walk from home, grabbed on the way to work so I had to stay dry..!
sǣ by robjdickinson, on Flickr
Ended up on a but of a photo tour with a bunch of other togs, cool trip, again conditions against us a lot but one great morning at Lake Alexandrina.
The Boatsheds by robjdickinson, on Flickr
Also shot some astro stuff which I am getting into more and more, shame about the late nights. I went to Lake Ellesmere to hunt aurora and didnt find any but did find a nice MW arch.
Ellesmere Galactic by robjdickinson, on Flickr
And for the 5th a toss up between these two featuring the Church of the worn memory card, lake Tekapo.

My Four seasons of 2013 finishes on Friday, so I'll post a link to that for any interested (25 from each season)... Really tough trying to select 5. As most of you know, I'm more of a 'landscape reportage bloke', just documenting what I see (for the local websites) rather than going out specifically to be a photographer - but what the hell, here are some I like, mainly as I have happy memories of the days I took them:

Hard to choose just 5 when you shoot 5-7 days a week for a year but here goes:
Ferrari F12 Berlinetta - ecoty grouptest, France.
Various - Ecoty header shot, France.
Lamborghini Aventador V Ferrari F12 Berlinetta - Grouptest, Italy.
Jaguar F-type on the Transfăgărășan - Romanian road trip.
So hard to choose a last one, I've mainly chosen it because of the memories.
Pagani Huayra chasing Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse - twin test, France.

Firstly, WOW! Just, WOW!! Some truly fantastic photos on this thread.
I have been a long time lurker on this section of P&P, always admiring the skill and talent of people that can take such stunning photographs.
But this particular thread has made me see there is more to life than sitting in an office, tapping away at a keyboard. My New Year Resolution is pick up a camera and see what happens, get out and enjoy our countryside.
Wish me luck!
And a sincere thank you

Fantastic work chaps. For a car forum the quality of photos offered is far superior to all other dedicated photography forums!

Excellent photos mate. I grew up along that coastline and am still amazed by its beauty every time I go back. Then reality strikes hard as I have to turn the car around from the coast and head back into Irvine to see my folks! Not really in any order , except the first is my No 1

Truly amazing scenery with great photo opportunities. Pity about the decline of the bigger towns in the area.
Mine aren't in the same league as some of the above, but it was still tough to choose. Looking at my Flickr stream, I have taken a lot of photos this year, and done a fair bit of travelling too. I have gone with the five below, not based soley on the quality of the pictures, but also because of the memories of great trips they invoke, or because of a pleasing result from trying something new (like the light painting effort).
Ghost on the Beach
Zell am See, Austria
Porsche Cayman S Lightpainted at Ashridge

Well last year I posted that I was moving to digital (finally!) and that it would be interesting to look back and compare at the end of 2013, so here are my favorites from this year.

Super work all, some amazing shots there.
This year has been quite a big one, I've taken fewer shots but made more of them, had an exhibition at the Joe Cornish Gallery, moved to medium format digital and done a lot of commercial work (most of which isn't that interesting hence not posting it here). I've also found I shoot a lot more upright landscapes than traditional landscape format. Weird.
My favourites from this year
1.
Dawn At Ullswater by mark_mullen, on Flickr
2.
Flamborough Head Rainbow - Explored 28/08/13 by mark_mullen, on Flickr
3.
The Shambles, York - Explored 03/08/13 by mark_mullen, on Flickr
4.

5. - My first traditional landscape taken on my Linhof.
Fallen Leaves, West Burton Falls by mark_mullen, on Flickr
Keep up the good work everyone, looking forward to seeing more amazing shots next year.
