Random Photos : Part 4
Discussion
To get us back on random photos mode, here's one from Lake Mary in the Mammoth Lakes area of California which lies only a stones throw from the border with Nevada.

The milford pic has had more shares on facebook than it has had views on flickr! 1855 views, 132 favs. really? I only bother so I can easily get bbcode links.
I'm the same with Flickr. One of my photos got more views on 500px in a month than my entire Flickr account.OGR4M said:
Realms better than my effort! Still a little soft around the edges though, if I were to be picky.
What kit are you using? and what settings was the pic taken with, if you can remember.
It was taken on a D80 with a sigma 70-300 lens from what I remember, ISO 100 shutter 1/125 F.11What kit are you using? and what settings was the pic taken with, if you can remember.
OK, ok, I broke the internet, since my last post I've had 2 more inclusions into explore from yesterday making it 8 pics in 7 days, yup, the internet is definitely broken now...

It’s a shame really, but Flickr has been st for quite some time. Think I’ll start sharing from 500px in future.

Didn't know you could share from 500px. Much prefer it, I put all my dross on Flickr and the ones that I think are worthy on 500px.

Its not as straight forward as Flickr, as you need to turn the 500px HTML into BB code for a forum post. This is me:

I copied the HTML and pasted it into a BB code converter website. (Use Google to find one). Or you could just use the .jpg part of the link and post as (without the spaces) [ pic ]http://ppcdn.500px.org/blablabla .jpg [ /pic ]
500px needs to sort the BB code side out though.

Just out of question.....for getting pictures of moving cars....
If I want a crisp image of the car it's a high shutter speed, and if you want the car to be blurry you want a longer shutter time; but if you use a quick shutter speed to get a crisp pic of the car, will the background be clear too? How do you get a clear background as well; and on another picture get a blurry background? My camera has a tracking focus function which could prove quite handy....is it a case of moving the camera to follow the car to get a blurry background, or just letting the tracking-focus function do its job?
Many thanks and sorry to interrupt the thread

I think what you're asking about is panning. If you use a high shutter speed you'll get something like this:
<snip much good stuff>Just to add - it really does depend how you are approaching or want to portray movement, and how close-up.
I mostly used a small fixed, open(35mm/f2) lens for almost everything, because I like doing street/'close-up' photography.
When it comes to capturing movement, I then tend to use fixed, quite long exposures, and moving me a lot to keep things framed in shot - mostly for hillclimb action which is at close quarters, but here's an example from Brighton Speed trials last Saturday - 1/15th, asa100 set, internal 3 stop ND filter on (its a Fuji X100) and so aperture falls fairly wide-open (f4 ish). Fullframe, resized without crop:
- but this approach is totally useless on a circuit - the car would be a dot in the blurry distance!
Just go and play lots, and find what works for you.
