For anybody that's interested these Amsterdam shots were all taken with the Canon 760D which has the new 24MP crop sensor. Definitely a modest but noticeable improvement over its predecessor I think - few more pixels to play with and a bit more DR as well. That last shot had a lot of shadow and highlight recovery from the RAW file and it's definitely resisted noise better than my old 100D would have (with the old Canon crop sensor).
Nice shots Mike.
You have reminded me of the business trips I sued to make to clients in Amsterdam. When going out for an evening the driver was always the bloke with the shortest car. It gave better opportunities for canalside parking slot access, although a booted VW Polo was a definite disadvantage in the small car stakes.
I was often impressed how competent people could be at impossible parking when their regular straight ahead road driving was nothing to write home about. We never once ended up in a canal.

Well according to DP Review - 'The Rebel T6s/T6i cameras show a slight improvement in Raw dynamic range compared to their predecessors, particularly commendable given the resolution increases they bring.' (I'll miss out the next bit where it says they're still crap compared to Sony/Nikon etc etc )

Thanks Yes the driving (and bicycling!) was quite something. One of the main issues with the place was the fact that all the canals were lined with clapped out cars - not very photogenic...You have reminded me of the business trips I sued to make to clients in Amsterdam. Could be worse, could be the new Leica SL
Take a look at the sample image below- they pushed the shadows but look at the banding at 100% in black clothing. Its horrific for a 7000$ dollar camera.

I downloaded some of the RAW files and they are suprisingly bad, terrible colour and no latitude in the exposure.

Very nice. Where abouts is your farm may I ask? That's an unusually clear view of the Milky Way for the UK!My latest, first attempt at photographing the sky above our farm, pretty happy with the result-

Thank you. We are in Northumberland so lucky to have pretty clear sky's with not much light pollution. I was really surprised, I was just messing around with my tripod and camera and thought I'd try a night shot (knowing it was quite a clear night) I didn't expect it to come out like that. It's been cloudy ever since!! Can't wait to try again properly. WWA said:

You must have at least known which way to point the camera for the Milky Way?!DibblyDobbler said:

Honestly, it was the only direction that there wasn't artificial light that was going to affect my shot. Shed to my south, cottages with outside lights to my east and a village to my north. So just pointed camera to the west. Very lucky I guess. Gassing Station | Photography & Video | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
