Well, that's a first!

I looked at both sources and cannot see much of a difference between them other than the Flickr option allowing slightly larger viewing size.

That fact that they are very similar is interesting and suggests that Thumbsnap may have significantly improved its offering or what it allows people to upload. No avoiding the intrusive branding though.

yes

Thumbsnap used to be horrific with degrading image quality and compression artefacts etc, maybe they've upped their game.

Here's the Flickr version

t7

The colour of the trees in the middle ground is slightly different to the original and I didn't like it. I prefer the Thumbsnap version. Pity the branding ruins it!

I would say that, at the same size as they are presented through the medium of PH, I really cannot see a difference in colour that you mention - or indeed much colour but I do appreciate the mainly silhouette effect and the nicely presented shading differences through the image.

However the Flickr version, as seen in Firefox through the PH forum application, looks a little sharper at the presented default size. No clear difference if one drills down to the images at their hosting locations.

Presumably both images started out as the same file copied to different storage locations with internet sharing capabilities?

If so any differences are only down to the applications used in the presentation chain.

Despite my observations above, unless there is something about the specific content of this image that happens to work nicely with Thumbsnap's resizing for forum link use, it looks like there may have been a step forward in what they are offering. Something to keep an eye on with other images perhaps?.

Are you viewing on a phone or a desktop screen? The difference is quite noticeable on a large screen.

1980 x1020 high spec laptop screen that I also use for photo editing.

Windows 7.

Firefox.

I have also looked at the source files at full available expansion in Flickr and Thumbsnap. In theory for those, assuming you sent the same jpg to both, there should be no difference at all unless the storage site alters the file you deliver in some way - compressing for dimensions or file size for example.

I see no obvious colour difference in Internet Explorer either although there are some scaling differences which makes me think there may be potential for some compression related changes.

I would the screen up to maximum brightness and still both images looked the same for all practical purposes.

I have not yet checked for differences between Firefox and IE but if there are any I think they would be marginal.

What are you viewing with?

Strange. When I view them on my Galaxy s8 there seems no difference. When I view them on a 21inch HP desktop monitor the colour of the trees in the middle distance is blotchy on the Flickr version. It is not on either the original or the thumbsnap displayed one. No matter. I won't lose sleep over it. It's the only time I've noticed it. It's the least of my problems when it comes to photography!

That's a while back; those points before the shunt neck are long gone. We had a bloke who was guaranteed Messroom Legend status when he had to berth in Crescent Road... yep, he went in Two Road and only realised his mistake when he got back to the station and the platform staff pointed out his broken pans hanging off the side of the train where he'd run off the wires hehe

That dates it as well... no platform staff any more either rolleyes

Yes Nik it's not a recent effort, but then Luton isn't exactly attractive to your average camera wielding types these days biggrin

I'm taking my camera to work tonight for the first time in ages, I'm on a Bescot to Oxford job so I might bag a pic or two if something presents itself.

Interesting approach to the shot.

I quite like it - not least for the concept.
