Took some excellent "on-safari" shots with my new toy recently in Kenya.
A question - with my previous non-SLR digital cameras, I could "resize" existing shots in the camera and save them.
Is the 300D unable to do this? There is nothing in the handbook on the subject and I have tried playing around with the menus on the camera but nothing.
Is it me???

I can't do this on my Canon S500 - obviously this doesn't help you! What i'm trying to say is that I've had 3 canon digi cams and never been able to do this - possibly not a canon feature?

Not a feature I'm aware of, but then I didn't RTFM.

Stating the obvious...but...easy to do in Photoshop...

If you're resizing to save memory, how about shooting smaller/lower-res images? Or of course go armed with more memory, HD storage etc.

Sorry all - maybe I should have been clearer. By resizing, I meant zooming in on part of an existing photo in playback mode and then saving the "zoomed in" piccie.
I have a Sony V1 which is excellent at doing this. My wife's cheapo CoolPix Nikon also does it.
Seems strange that the 300D cannot do it.

Zooming on the camera is always going to be more crude than waiting and doing it on photoshop. Stick with computer editing.

I'm with Rico - buy a telephoto!

I've been shooting with the 300d for about a year now, cropping an image isn't possible.

I can't really see why you'd want to do it either really, the LCD screen isn't as clear as your monitor so the potential to destroy a good shot is too great imho.

From what i have seen, processing options are extremely limited before the picture leaves the card.
You can zoom in and pan whilst in playback but thats about it.

Thanks to all for your responses.

1. I used a 300mm telephoto lens in Kenya.
2. On the Sony, I always saved the original image as well.
3. I have enrolled on a Photoshop course at my local adult education centre starting next week as I now agree that this way is the best
4. PHers are the best form of information and advice

Thanks guys.
