Just get stuck in, film things that interest you, learn how things like editing works, then see what you think after that.

Well that was pretty pointless.

It was pretty dull after the first 20 secs or so. But fair play to the OP for actually turning something out after starting the thread. I guess there could be some potential for some interesting videos, but its going to be hard to get going.

I disagree on the fair play comment. He should not be posting stuff like that on YouTube, let alone linking to it here.

Fortunately I only wasted about 15 seconds on it, as soon as I heard the music start I knew it was most likely a timewaste, so skipped forward to see if there was any actual content anywhere and no, there wasn't.

If he wants to get anywhere with this he needs to at the very least be prepared to talk off camera, if he doesn't have the bottle to get in front of it.

He also needs to make a lot more use of the description section, and put links to his website in it.

What a genuinely wky comment, who the fk are you to decide if I post on my own thread or on youtube, you sound like an absolute tool. Christ what are you going to do with that 15 seconds wasted an extra 10 minutes writing your opinion? post more threads about cheese on pistonsheads... hmm interesting.

I'm all for constructive criticism, but if you want someone to take your advice don't talk to them like a c**t.

I will research at what others are doing in the description.

it was my first video, I was happy with it, but it probably had more entertainment value for me considering the hard word I put into doing it.

Note taken, but yeah first preliminary video, I have got more videos to come with actual hands on content and me in front of the camera etc yes its hard at first to keep things fluid but I wouldn't consider having "bottle" to do it.

First of all, I'm not deciding what you post anywhere, I'm simply commenting on it, as I am entitled to do. It's up to me what I spend my time on, because it's mine. Incidentally the thread about cheese has 4 pages, so it's obviously an interesting subject for others as well as me.

If you thought that there was something actually inaccurate about what I said then by all means draw my attention to it. Simply not liking it doesn't count for much.

I don't really care whether you take my advice or not, YouTube is full of videos like the one you posted so it really isn't going to change anything.

If you want an example of good automotive video content then have a look at what these people are doing

https://www.youtube.com/user/badobsessionmsport

interesting content, humour, personality, no wonder they've got 150K subscribers.

Hmm if im not mistaken and presume "he" is me in third person, it seems like you are "deciding what I post"
Yep that would be the first inaccurate part of what you are saying..

Full of st you, end of.

singlecoil , i see you mention humour. i find that the attempts at humour in the project binky videos are probably the worst aspect of a fantastic series. i used to watch mighty car mods. really enjoyed the content but the humour put me off. just how many jokes about pubes can you have?
i will admit that i am a grumpy old sod with a jaded outlook on life , but each to their own. to the op , just keep having a go. my regular viewing includes , tavarish , b is for build . soup amongst others. i am always searching for uk based vloggers making similar videos. the "what colour should i wrap my supercar?" videos have zero appeal for me. good luck and keep plugging away smile

The timelapse should have been part of a video not the film. Not the film itself. . I'd say you missed an opportunity to do a vlog on doing the unit up.

I wouldn't worry, most vloggers are awkward in front of the camera and ropey editing when they first start. Keep going you will find your feet eventually. I'm learning editing and film making myself now so. I'm in the same boat.

Oh dear - this isn't going to end well....

When you posted the link to your video, its safe to assume you wanted people to look at it. Did you really expect that if people thought it was sub-standard, they would tell you it was good?

If you're going to publish anything, you need to learn how to handle criticism better, especially when the criticism also contained some constructive suggestions. Flying off on one with a string of expletives will achieve only one thing - people won't watch your video because they can't be ar$ed to provide feedback that's going to provoke such an unwarranted reaction.

I can understand that the OP was upset after he had put some work in on it. I expect he will calm down and see what was said in a more positive light eventually.

I also expect it's an exciting time for him, getting a new unit ready. I love setting up workshops, because you know that everything you do infrastructure wise will repay the effort in time.

I suggest he makes another video only this time put some of that emotion into it, talk to the viewers about it, make them excited too. Introduce them to the 'players' and let us see their personalities.

I didn't expect anything tbh, you can jump to conclusions all you like, I handle criticism very well its how you learn, but the way he was talking to me like a , im not going to take that on a thread that was light hearted asking for advice.

I acknowledged his backhanded criticism about the description and regarding about talking on the camera... that's clear to see in black and white.

anyway, this has got out of hand

I'm not upset at all, it was just the way you came across, hence me defending myself.

Thank you, feedback I can move forward with I agree, its more involving.

I really wasn't posting this video to make a really big impact, but maybe it being my first video I should of concentrated on introducing etc, but thats down to my inexperience. hey ho..

I'm sorry you felt the need to 'defend' yourself, it really wasn't necessary. As soon as you use the expression 'the way you come across' it shows that you are applying your own interpretation to what has been said. Same thing as the 'so what you're saying' comment one sees from time to time. If I may offer a suggestion without getting more of the same 'defence' then when you feel a negative comment has been made about you think about it for five minute before reacting.

Also, the word 'deciding' has a specific meaning, and it really isn't the same as 'should'. The result of a court case is a decision, when the judges pronounce on who won a photo finish thats a decision. If the moderators of a forum delete a post that's a decision. So I didn't decide on what you posted.

Here we go a 'proper' episode...

Definitely slightly naïve in me thinking it wouldn't take to long to edit the videos! lol

Ive got a long way to go, but I'm learning quickly! things id like to work on is more commentary over the top of the timelapses, certainly more dynamic editing/camera angles but yeah getting there....

I watched most of it (skipped ahead here and there) and thought it was pretty good. The camera work and lighting were good, the sound not quite so good. Sometimes your voice was perfectly clear but other times not. One way to improve that would be to use a lavalier mic as close to your mouth as you can get it, plugged into a recorder in your pocket (so you didn't need wireless).

I don't care for your taste in music (and I expect you wouldn't like mine either). My suggestion would be to use something a little more neutral, and to keep its volume down. While watching I had to keep turning the volume down when the music came on, and up again so that I could hear what you were saying.

If you could get better speech sound you would be able to do some work and talk at the same time. This is good technique in a video because when you are deciding what to say next you can be doing something, that way there is always something going on even during the pauses in the talking.

There was a bit of black screen before the writing, and the info in it should really have been a spoken piece with the car in the background. People don't just want to know what happened, they want to know how you feel about it. You can convey emotions much better with the spoken word and the face than with writing.

All in all a good effort and I look forward to seeing the next episode (which you should have trailed in the video you just posted).

Totally agree on the sound, camera and mic for xmas me thinks!

Yep I agree, I also got told off for using music that has copyright attached to it, so it wont play on mobile devices with that music on there... so ill need to do as you said, non royaly bit neutral music.

yep agree'd volume I didn't keep very consistent!

Yep true, I hope I can keep more of an idea in my head about the overall storyboard, then I can record voiceovers that will be in conjunction with the footage, but guess I can do the voiceovers when editing etc,,,

but yeah thanks for the feedback!
