£1800 for a bridge camera with a 1" sensor. Is this a bridge too far?

It does look spicy..... but given a 600mm f4 lens from any of the big names is mega bucks - it seems like potentially good value for money. I recall Sonys previous super zoom bridge camera had excellent optics and if these are similar there could be a market for this camera.

The huge zoom range of 24-600 really does cover just about ever focal length you could need when traveling. Ok - no super wide angles but 24mm is fairly wide on a 1 inch sensor - no?

'24-600mm f/2.4-4 high-magnification zoom lens'

As long as they're sure it's not the 24-600mm LOW-magnification zoom lens that seems astonishing.

When I started writing this I assumed that a 1" sensor had a 1" (25mm) diagonal, so would be close to the Nikon DX size of 24 x 16mm. It's not, it's only 12.8 x 9.6 mm - which means 24mm is not very wide and IMHO would limit the useability of the camera. Too much tele, not enough wide. And you'd need a hacksaw to get the lens off.

The 24-600mm range will be effective rather than literal... the crop factor for a 1" sensor is 2.7 so the lens will be 9-222mm.

An actual 600mm f/4 lens as intended for full frame would be many times larger, heavier and costlier.

The RX10 IV is pretty similar to the RX10iii which I have. The lens is really very good - see some shots below. The last one shows the full zoom range smile

Yeah that does seem rather a lot! Sure I paid about half that for the Mkiii (grey import but still...)

Wow, I was just about to post that I was sure that you had one of these cameras but couldn't remember the version number.

As always the pics you take are stunning.

The RX10iii is a technologically superb bit of kit, so goodness knows how good the latest incarnation is like. Not sure I would want to spend that amount of money on one.

Too kind smile I think the MkIV focuses a bit faster but lens and sensor are the same (or near enough) - I'm sure I paid under a grand for mine so £1800 does seem like rather a lot for virtually the same thing!
