Rig shot

Hey, Despite my dislike for certain Rig shots i do think there is untapped potential, or at least, i want to have a try before i totaly dismiss it. Just wondering do all you people that have made your own rigs how safe to they tend to be? i dont really want to strap my D70 to the end of a plank of wood hanging out of the window of a car.
Also any links to tips or pointers on building one?

something incorperating the tripod mounting would be a good start but im not sure if would trust mine on a home made rig, but i would be very interested to see what you come up with
