Im after something to correct/enhance photographs with, dont really need much more functionality than that, but gather there is more than one version, need to buy it tonight, hence the post after some info (dont have time to google)

Try posting on the photography forum. I use Photoshop version 7 (not the most recent one). The possibilities with this program are tremendous. There are other image editing software packages available that will no doubt be cheaper. I have only used Photoshop so can't really recommend anything else.
At the risk of being mocked on here....
I can recommend Microsoft Digital Image Suite for single adjustments, batch adjustments, recovery of scans of old films and prints and general tidying and tarting work.
Excellent selection tools and the one step exposure autofix is the best I've found (and I've tried loads!!)
More intuitive for a non-PS bod like me.
Also has support for most PS plugins.
I got mine for less than 30 quid on amazon and I think it's a fantastic product.
My main software arsenal consists of this along with ThumbsPlus and BreezeBrowserPro.
