I have the 70-300 af-p ( bought last month from a forum ) and it's great - very sharp, very light and compact.

That said, I think I might get rid as it's not a focal length that suits me. Hdew are at £219 but I'd do mine for a good saving if you're interested. Boxed and as new.

Ps hope this doesn't contravene any rules, apologies if it does

Just wanted to check how your niece is getting on with the D3400? I'm considering the same camera for my son's 14th birthday next month. iPhone aside it would be his first camera so ease of use/flexibility/connectivity is key. I may just go for it with the standard 18-55 VR lens for now and add a 70-300mm VR lens later. Not sure if bundle deals like this are much of a saving? :

Nikon D3400 Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm VR and 70-300mm VR Lenses, 16GB Memory Card & CF-EU11 Bag 769.99 GBP at Costco currently

Are there any other entry level-ish DSLR or Mirrorless camaeras I should be considering?

Currently 10% cheaper at Amazon and you get a 64GB card not a 16GB card.

She is getting on really well with it thanks for asking and I will be adding the 70-300 lens for her birthday at the end of the month. The menu system is easy to use and it all just works flawlessly as I remember Nikon cameras from back in the day when I had a film one. The only thing that isn’t as good as it sounds is the ability to directly upload to Instagram and the like to avoid the laptop middleman. This works but it’s not as smooth and easy as you might hope.

I received the 3400 myself as a Christmas prezzie and I am really happy with it. I only got the kit lens, but have since bought the 50mm 1.8 f1.8G which is great for photos of the family.

I want a 70-300mm lens next, just need to find the right one.

Would recommend the camera, no WiFi but the Bluetooth connectivity works well.
