Having recently moved into a very old house, I was browsing the net to see if I could find any old pictures of it to adorn the internal walls. Amazingly, I found quite a lot - among them a Magic Lantern Slide from 1890 that has a charming scene and includes part of the house in it.

I purchased the slide and now want to make a print from it. I did scan it in via my printer/scanner but the result isn't great - probably as mine is just a fairly cheap Epson scanner/printer combination thingy...

Does anyone have any experience of scanning these old slides or can anyone advise the best way to actually make a copy good enough for me to print out to frame and put on the wall?

If the suggestion is a better scanner, any idea which model and at what cost? I'd be happy to throw a bit of cash at it to get what I want...

Rather than scan it, if you have a decent camera or know someone who has, or are prepared to take it to a photographer, then hold it up to the light (such as a cloudy sky seen through a window, make sure the focus is spot on and take the picture. Take several at different exposure values so that you have a number to select from. You might need a macro lens, to get the best definition.
