Apologies for the delay in getting the new topic up, I started a new job this week so have been a little snowed under! So, after 5 years of bar management, I'm back doing a job that means I get to see what mornings look like on the right side of the day again. To help me get up at a time I've been considering bedtime for a while I'd like to see your photos on the following theme:

Morning

Slight tweak to the rules to see if it gets a few more entries, I'm allowing photo's from your back catalogue, it'll be up to the next judge if they want to stick to that or return back to only photos taken specifically for the topic again.

Rules:

The photos taken must be your own work and can be taken at anytime..
The competition will run from the first to the last day of the month.
The winner from the previous month decides on the topic for the following month and judges it at the end of the month.
Entries and discussion on this single thread, please.
All entrants acknowledge that they may indeed win and that their adherence to convention ensures everyone else's continued fun.
Photos entered should be no bigger than 750 pixels wide for a landscape photo and 600 pixels high for a portrait photo due to the PH squash factor. Links to larger versions are permissible.

Sensible IMHO - to keep this thing going with a decent entry we need fairly general topics and opening it to the back catalogue also helps. Maybe as a compromise to the purists we could have an informal agreement that any photos taken in the month specifically for the comp get a few bonus points from the judge? Just a thought smile

I think this is a good compromise, as it takes a lot more effort to plan a photo, go out and take it, rather than just going into Flickr, getting the BB code and posting in in the forum as I have just done.

Dogsey whilst your idea to increase interest in the competition is laudable I think that if you allow back catalogue photos then you cannot call it a competition. Its an exhibition!

The idea of a competition is to get people off their arses doing something and if they can’t be arsed…

Just my 2 cents...

Contributors submit their best image and the best image wins. Fail to see how that's not a competition?
The number of entries has definitely dropped since it reverted to images taken in the current month.

I agree.

I would also say that while very general subjects allow a wide range of choices, that isn't necessarily a good thing. IMO the best subjects are those that give everybody, no matter where they live, a decent chance but which are fairly specific. That way as Paul says they will need to make a specific effort for the competition and exercise some ingenuity and imagination.
