Few months ago i asked about using a slide copier on my DSLR

IIRC the general consensus was get a slide scanner

Now about to take the plunge

What is the best one about? dust/scratch removal etc

Thanks

I'd look at this one:
https://plustek.com/uk/products/film-and-photo-sca...

Nikon Coolscans come up on Gumtree surprisingly often:

It's in Ireland though.

I use a Plustek 8100 scanner for scanning my 35mm films. It may not be he fastest but it does produce excellent results. The bundled Silverfast software is also excellent with a multitude of options which can be a bit bewildering, but it does have straightforward film presets that you can apply and then fine tweak afterwards if need be. If you're after a recommendation then at that price you can't go wrong for a dedicated film scanner - just put the kettle on and open a pack of biscuits and scan away!

The Nikons were very good devices & quite desireable but they are no longer produced, although there's software available to keep them working. I'd have no issues with the Plustek & in fact I have one of the previous versions. The one I linked to is the most expensive as it includes an IT8 reference slide but you might decide you don't want to take it that far (Google for information on IT8 targets).

One of the important things to do is get your workflow sorted out so you can work efficiently & don't have to go back & re-scan. There were a couple of books recommended on a previous thread & it's certainly worth have a search on Google for pointers.

I've not read these myself but it might be worth picking one of them up to see if it can help you understand the process:

It's important to automate the process as much as possible as otherwise it becomes very time consuming, & it takes enough time as it is. Get familar with the Silverfast sofware & maybe try Vuescan to see if you get on with it better:

Don't know if it is of any use, but I am about to sell my old Sony UY - S77 complete with 35mm film carrier and slide carrier.

Its an old bit of kit but a professional one, don't know what operating system would be needed for it though.
