The theme for the September competition is, based on the scene I look at outside right now....

"The End of Summer"

Any genre to fit the theme, fairly wide ranging so interpret however you like.

Rules:

The photos taken must be your own work and can be taken at anytime, but please get out with your gear if you have time.
The competition will run from the first to the last day of the month.
The winner from the previous month decides on the topic for the following month and judges it at the end of the month.
Entries and discussion on this single thread, please.
All entrants acknowledge that they may indeed win and that their adherence to convention ensures everyone else's continued fun.
Photos entered should be no bigger than 800 pixels wide for a landscape photo and 600 pixels high for a portrait photo due to the PH squash factor. Links to larger versions are permissible.

At this time of year we get an early morning fog filling the valley. It comes about an hour before sunrise and is burnt off by about 9:00.

This morning, seeing the weather forecast was relatively clear I decided to get out and walk above the clouds.

The light was fantastic. I bumped into an old hunter out trying to get deer. We stood chatting and listening to a stag a few hundred metres away. Given I didn't hear any gunshots I suspect the stag is still with us.

I've never posted here so please be kind. I took this shot in the garden of some Toadstools that popped up in the lawn.

It was feeling pretty autumnal out there this afternoon, the end of summer I guess.

Wrapped up warm on the beach.

I wanted to make sure I got a photo to match the theme this month.

Some great entries guys, and really good to see so many being put in again.

Really tough choices to be made and some good image selection relation to the theme.

Enough good ones for a top three I feel!

In third...

nre - Nigel I liked this lots,I clicked through to your flikr profile and have to say, I think you picked one of the weaker images from the series! The rest are even better in my view. Good image though for the theme.

In 2nd.... Partsmonkey. Love the colours and just how simple it is. Some stunning sunsets around at this time of year.

In 1st.... Singlecoil and his conkers. Good choice of image for the theme, and just the right amount of movement in the image to take it away from a still. Good job.
