Your top 5 for 2018

What amazing photos!
My choice is personal, all of them taken within 45 mins walk from my house.
In March I went to watch the night cross country skiing race in the woods near home. The athletes motion and their head torches created lovely trails.
The snow melted in late April and by June the alpine flowers were in full bloom. I caught these wild lupins early one morning
We had a wonderful dry autumn with vibrant colours. This evening shot reminded me of the Romantic Landscape painters who visited Switzerland 200 years ago. It's the same lake as the lupin image

A week later the larch trees turned the valley yellow and orange. I found this stunted tree which found the tiniest of foot-holds between the rocks where there had obviously been a big avalanche many years ago.
At 1850m, and with 300+ days of sunshine a year we get the most special light. One defining aspect are these pink skies away from the sunset (or sunrise) at the start of the blue hour.
In November we had a cold spell with morning temperatures below -20. The marsh where the skiers crossed in the first photo had frozen and the frost had created beautiful flowers of ice and the alpenglow had caught the far peaks.
Interestingly, looking back at the metadata on the images I just realised that every one was taken with the same lens - my 16mm F1.4 Fujinon.

Some stunning photos there, all definitely ones to be proud of!
My photos won't be quite up to the same standards, as I'm only just starting out on my photography journey, but I'll have a look through mine tonight and see if there's any I like enough to share.
I've also had a spring clean on my almost abandoned Flickr account, so I've followed a few accounts, I'll get a few odds and end uploaded there tonight.

Christ, some outstanding work.
I felt I didn't do or get a whole lot in 2018, hopefully 2019 will rectify that - my favourite five in no order..

2018 was a year of "firsts" for me as I wanted to try out different techniques and genres rather than the usual fencing club action shots and videos that I seem to spend a lot of time on.
So first up a fencing club shot this was a first outing of my new camera/body combo at the Saint Michael's fencing club in Ghent (the oldest in the World)

Second first, I tried some birding shots in the garden. Definitely room for improvement here!
Blue Tit by Andy Williams, on Flickr
Third first, Nurburgring Nordschleife drive-by shooting, nothing special but fun to do

Final first, an all-night photo shoot in London, loved every minute of it but you're knackered by sunrise

Hopefully some more opportunities in 2019 for practice, practice and yet more practice.

my first time at the top 5, I've never felt it warranted before but I've been trying hard this year so here goes;
Wastwater from last January. We went for a short walk and a meal at the Wasdale Head Inn and there was a light sprinkling of snow, which was nice.

From a cold and miserable Southwold in April;

One from Brands;

Portland Bill, it wasn't looking promising then the sky went red;

and finally, I was procrastinating about going to Mersea Island before Christmas but I'm glad I did.

Incredible top 5 mate, love the Brands image, and the foggy Southwold!
Mind asking what body and lenses you're shooting with? Really inspiring stuff
Hi, thanks for the comments. I'm using a Fuji Xt10 and most of those images will have been taken with the XF10-24 lens with the exception of the brands hatch one which was with the XC50-230. For the longer exposures I use an SRB screw on ND1000 filter which is very good for the price.Mind asking what body and lenses you're shooting with? Really inspiring stuff
