Rather serendipitous post adjacency (if you view the forum with the most recent post set to be at the top, as I do):

I think PI.mills was trying to achieve the same effect with his first (and possibly last) ever post.

A ladies sidecar event.

I was once marshalling at Brands Hatch during an historics meeting and chanced upon a sidecar outfit standing in the pit lane. I stopped to have a look at it and the rider came out to see what I was up to. Probably thought he was going to get pulled up over something I had seen. After a moment he realised I was only a corner marshal and just rubber necking, so we had a nice chat.

He explained the platform for the passenger was the seat squab off a Sheffield omnibus. I remarked that there were only two rather insubstantial looking handles to hold on to, and asked how difficult it was to hang on in there. His answer ...

"The faster you go the easier it gets."

Yup.

TIL Nelson Piquet ended up giving three drivers (Stefan Johansson, Rene Arnoux and Philippe Alliot) a ride back to the pits on the back of his Williams at the end of the 1986 Mexican Grand Prix.

That was absolute madness.

Obviously the FIA had to crack down.

By the 90's they were only allowed 1 passenger per car.
