As my winning shot included one of my (many) photographic fetishes - an empty bench, I thought I'd go with 'Empty' as the next subject.

Rules:

The photos taken must be your own work and can be taken at anytime, but please only get out with your gear if you have safe opportunity etc.

The competition will run from the first to the last day of the month.

You can only submit one, and only one photo.

The winner from the previous month decides on the topic for the following month and judges it at the end of the month.

Entries and discussion on this single thread please.

All entrants acknowledge that they may indeed win and that their adherence to convention ensures everyone else's continued fun.

Photos entered can be as large as you like, although bear in mind if too large, it may not be possible to see the whole image on some screens. Links to larger versions are permissible.

end of an era by sicarumba, on Flickr

My dad built a car in his dad's garage, and after he (my grandad) died we had to empty the place before selling it ... this picture was quite touching as the place held more than a few memories.

Hastings beach.

Whilst not strictly devoid of humans, as far as the lone figure in the picture was concerned, it was empty!

Not entered for a while... so decided to make the effort to actually go out and take something. I travelled far... actually about 3m to the garage... and created this study of empty jars and shelves that I've yet to fill with junk.

Taken on Friday 10th July at 12.45 in Queen Victoria Street from the top of a Routemaster. There would normally have been thousands of people there.

Never ventured into this forum before, hope it's OK to put up a phone photo

First the easy bit - Happy New Year everyone.

Thanks for all your entries, a really interesting and varied set, with many that I liked so it would be unfair to give honourable mentions.

For me the winner by a very short nose is Iain's empty jars, love the composition, light and muted tones.

So over to you for a new year of competition.
