I have some old camcorder footage that's been captured to mpeg2 files, and I want to cut them down to individual clips. Each file is an entire 90 minute tape.

I've tried various editors but they seem massively over the top for what I want (and complicated) or want to save as project files, or other video formats.

Is there a simple cutting tool I can use which will let me set a start, and end, and save the bit in the middle in the same file format?

Edit to add..... I have tried a few tools that initially seem to fit the bill but they all seem flawed in some way as an example I've just tried MPEG cutter which will only let you step frames forward, so ligning up with a start point is very hit and miss. Whatever tool I used before had various options for jumping forward and back to align to your start and end points.

Just tried it. Unfortunately it looks like you have to play the entire clip you want to save, and click record at the beginning, and end. It would be too inaccurate and easy to miss the right end point.

Previously I just aligned a pointer to the precise start and finish, and hit save.

I've just tested about 4 other cutters from cnet and had no luck. I thought one was ok, but the output file sizes are double what they should be which means they must be recoding or processing the video. I simply want to cut the existing files down without any processing.

MP4 splitter should work for MPEG 2 as well and will split rather than render so should be quite quick.

Many thanks. That's done it exactly as expected!

Even better you can create all the cuts you want a a series of start/end points, and it does them all. As its not processing it's very quick.
