It's Dave Akerman though :-) Suggest you say "30km" not "30k" incase anyone thinks it was a mere 30k feet
Did you want to include our USA roadtrip trip in the bearmiles calculation?

Yep... tell me where you went... and another photo if you have one? Maybe the Bear Trap?
Oh and I'll say 97,000 feet... sounds more impressive

The Bear Trap one works for me Yep... tell me where you went... and another photo if you have one? Maybe the Bear Trap?
It was a California road trip from LA. The Bear Trap photo was taken in Yosemite. Total road miles about 2,200 (I'll get the exact figure later when I find it), plus the the flights LHR <-> LA.

Well done dave and Mrs Ted the wait was worth it
Thanks! The weather has been ste for ages and yesterday was the first opportunity I had. Even then, the initial predictions were rather too close to the coast for comfort, so I used a smaller balloon than normal (for a lower burst) and put a lot of gas in it (for a lower burst and a quicker ascent). The parachute was slightly undersized, again to get Mrs Ted Down sharpish and thus on land rather than the sea.Even with the whole day available, the predictions were safe only from 2-3pm onwards. I aimed at a 3pm launch but a few things slowed me down (including slicing off a chunk of a finger when finishing the payload!). So the launch was at 4pm, only 30 mins before sunset. At altitude the sun sets later but that did mean that the sun was down during the ascent, and it was dark by the time the balloon burst. Hence the lack of "Ted against bright Earth and black sky" photos. However I think some of the shots, especially the sunset ones, make up for that.
