If I change the pic will it automatically update - or does it do it in the middle of the night or something?
Yes and no.

Yes - when you sign on (it'll refresh the link)
No - if you never sign off & sign on (like most people at work).

However, get it to update via a 'schedule' and you can tell it to update once a day (ie. at 11am, like I have) and it automatically pootles off and gets the latest.

You can make the desktop picture on your computer be the picture that Steve takes every day. It self updates and you simply see a new picture on your desktop each day. Lovely jubbly.

To do that, click that link on the previous page (the TODAY.JPG link) and follow the instructions by touchingcloth.

If you are on a PC and broadband and are daft enough to want to change your desktop to my pic a day, every day...

then go to www.stevecarter.com/picaday/today.
right click on the pic
Set as active desktop
once it's downloaded onto your 'puter, move your mouse over the photo and then up to the top of the photo...
then you can move the photo around and click on the arrow (that appaears in a menubar of the pic - top left)
and if you click on 'properties' > Schedule, you can get your computer to automatically update the pic to each days pic.

sad but true

Even sadder... This link (Click) is from the webcam over looking the Nurburgring's public entrance. The picture itself updates every minute, and I have it updating on a schedule every hour. It's great if you're about to go... and horrid if you've recently been!

Works the same for ski resort web cams too. A lot of them use the same filename and update.

ohhh that's clever.

idea

How about a link somehwere on your site Steve that shows the last picture added. Then we can activate the active desktop to that link and the desktop updates with every new picture.
Sort of CarterVision

Mind you... no dodgey Frankie or anything, as it would be plastered across my six 19" monitors hehe

They are all fantastic images, I am very jealous of the scenery you have!

Just one question, have some of them changed? I'm sure I saw a 'passing place' sign last week!?

Yep... sometimes I take one, shove it up, then take a better one and replace.

It's all bloody go in the Highlands I can tell you... I saw a postman today.

Up until this week when it's got a bit lighter, I've been going to work in the dark, going home in the dark and getting as far as M&S at lunchtime!

It doesn't really make for good piccies when you've only got a compact camera that is crap without loads of light!

So far for today's good intentions - forgot to charge the camera battery!

Next question...where's the schedule? I've gone into properties but don't see schedule anywhere in there.

If you right mouse click on your desktop and go to "properties" you then follow....

desktop > customize desktop > web > (select image) > properties > schedule

and you can then edit it from in there thumbup
