Where to sell Canon 450D?
Discussion
My Dad's trying to sell his 450D, now he's settled-in with the 7D. Put it on eBay, sold it, then discovered the total fees (eBay and PayPal) were going to be >£80!!!
Needless to say he cancelled the transaction (which admittedly probably p'd the buyer off, but he says he genuinely didn't realise their fees had got so silly).
So...what alternatives are there? Is the for-sale board on here any good? Are there any good photo-forums with for-sale sections?
Cheers,
Martin.

You can try PH Classifieds - but much as I dislike eBay's greed, their global reach means you realise the best price so you have to bite the bullet. If the auction ended the only way to get your FVF (final value fee) back is to report the buyer as an NPB (non-paying bidder) and that's even more unfair than the fees...

He hasn't said, but I get the impression it was only just above his reserve, which is probably why he's so galled at the fees.I'll mention the FVF to him, see what he says, but won't mention the 'non-paying' bit just yet.
Worth putting up on here then...anyone know if there's any problem me advertising it on his behalf?

That's the risk you take unfortunately. But presumably he was prepared to sell it for the reserve... otherwise it wouldn't be a reserve IYSWIM...havoc said:

The FVF is the biggest chunk and it's deducted from your account the moment the auction closes with a winning bidder. The seller is then contractually obliged to sell (just as the buyer is obliged to pay) and if he reneges on the deal then he'll be the one getting -ve FB etc. But maybe £80 is worth it - up to him! He could save 3.5% by asking the buyer to pay by cheque or transfer - but it's up to the buyer who has every right to use PayPal if he wants.havoc said:

It's a Canon! Not a Cannon! You don't fire a Canon - you fire a Cannon.... Simples!

Just out of interest, what was his reason for upgrading to the 7D? havoc said:

Just out of interest, what was his reason for upgrading to the 7D? I've bought and sold through http://www.mpbphotographic.co.uk/ in the past. Happy with purchases and prices given for selling kit.

AVForums also has a similar but slightly quieter Digital camera classifieds section.
Both are very good resources, hope this helps.
Just one comment with AV Forums, no matter what price you put something up for they will offer you about 20% under what you ask, even if it's a good price! Both are very good resources, hope this helps.
Also, if you've never sold on there before you might be asked to send the good before they pay (the reduced price).
