I'm getting a Canon 1Ds soon and would like to ask the following question:-

How many pictures would you be able to record on a 1Ghz card at the various pixel sizes ?

On a 1Gb card (which I presume is what you're getting ), I can get over 300 (think it's 320-340, but have a mix of photos on there at present so cannnot confirm) Of the highest quality JPEGs or something like 130 RAW.

I have a 10D with a 6MP sensor. So on a 1Ds you're probably looking at 175/70 respectively.

I suspect the medium res will give similar storage to the 10D as it'lll probably be the same res.

To correct mine, it's 360 JPEGs and 142 RAW (incl JPEG), equating to 196 and 77 approx. on the 1Ds

Slightly higher estimates than on DPReview, but same order of magnitude I guess.

Not sure whether he just multiplied out the theoretical numbers, or worked these out from real life figures.

Also not sure if Microdrives have more format overhead (i.e. unusable space) than solid state CFs.

Just spent 2 hours reading the whole review (skipped the really techy stuff). Thanks for the link. M.
