I was more than happy with the work you did for me on my S1. If you really want to do it and you are sure you will enjoy it, then you must give it a go. I hope to work for myself one day but have not come up with a cunning enough plan yet. A phrase I always think of is "life is not a rehersal" so if you don't do it now when are you going to.

Maybe to start with you can do part time work while you try to build the business up.

By the way my door pins need doing so I might be able to give you a bit of work too in the not too distant future......

Hope it works out whatever you decide.

cheers

Lee,

I have read with interest peoples comments regarding your predicament (sp), so here therefor is my 2 penneth worth. Probably not worth that much !

Go for it !

Cheers

Mark
PS - You know the pitfalls, you know the benefits and you also know you can give it all up and go back to the 9 to 5. If you never go for it, you will always ask yourself the question.

Firstly thanks for all the kind comments and secondly for the advice given.Still not sure what to do but I will keep you all informed (and you'll all be invited to the grand opening if I go ahead! albeit a beer and bag of crisps in my workshop ).I just couldn't imagine telling my grandchildren stories of missed opportunities (what next LeeBee in pipe and slippers shocker!) not that I have any grandchildren!

Sorry to here your plight, but I thought you might find some encouragement from my experiment.

I decided with a very good friend of mine to start a business on the side much like you. It started with a 2 week contract with myself, my partner an one other chap who worked at 8 till late.

2 1/2 years later we employ 50 people, have a fleet of vehicles an the turnover is approaching 7 figures.

The moral is if you want to suceed badly enough YOU WILL !! Good luck and go for it. You never know the next new car I buy might be a black Tuscan S from Leebee TVR Centre.

Mike.

PS I'd like to know more about this exhaust system you do for "S"'s?

mike, ive just had one fitted and its a rip roaring beast of a thing! pops and bangs on lift off and gear changing......bloody wonderful! and it looks the dogs with its twin 2.75inch cerbera spec tail pipes.
I looked at loads of exhausts , even hayward and scott
dont come close in either sound or quality terms. Johno, until recently had the same on his motor, but had to part with it cos for some reason wouldn't pass the trackday sound tests!!

Well i'm sorry not to be more obvious, but I got a little narked with some chaps so decided not to post the progress of the Cosworth project.

However, since you asked its all going very well. I have most of the parts needed including;

4.0L base engine from a nearly new Explorer
A 1998 Cosworth engine
Had a steel flywheel made with 4.0L crank mounting holes
Cosworth Escort clutch and pressure plate
T5 box from a 97 Chimera
LSD 7.5" Cosworth Diff
Uprated drive shafts
Cosworth rear discs and calipers
Uprated rear springs
AP Racing 4 pot front calipers
Black Diamond grooved discs
Gold Cosworth badging (no expense spared!!)
V8S rear arms
Nylotron bushing throughout
Lots of other spangely stuff to finish off

BUT!! can't get hold of a bell housing for love nor money which is a small problem. But still working on it. Might have sourced a manufacturer in the States.

The wheels are coming from "splitrims.com" and look fairly similar to original "S" wheel but are modular. (don't ask the cost, it wild!!)

Oh and a V8S bonnet and I'm ready to go (quickly)

The chassis will be strengthened and a stainless roll cage will be fitted to help rigidity along with a F1 style ali floor to stiffen it all up.

Blimey Mickey that seems a hell of a nice spec , how many ponies is the 4.0L lump expected to put out?
I look forward to seeing it when it's completed at one of the future PH meets, when are you expecting to get it on the road?

Just got back from delivering 2 tonne of beer and thought I'd check before I left work and hey presto. Sounds like its really coming together.

There was someone one here who had designed and had built a bell housing to put a T5 box onto the V6 but I can't remember who it was.

Own up who ever you were !!!

The whole thing sounds awesome and was wondering what you were also doing about an exhaust system.

Also please excuse my ignorance but why a 'base engine' plus a cossy engine. Is this so you can mix and match parts.

Sound's like you have truly dealt with the rigidity issue and was wondering what kind of bhp you think you may end up with ??

Can't wait to see this beast by the way !!

Micky,

Only other thing I was thinking was cost ! If you are willing to divulge this of course as it sounds like you haven't spared any on it.

Dampers ? Spring rates ? ARB size ?

Any special colour to finish it. Flip flop style paint on a S or classis shades ???

Cheers

Dear Matt
According to David Geralds just about everything. The problem was that they devised a list of faults and just went straight ahead with the work without giving me an estimate (and they had promised to do so). To cut a long story short I had to depart with £2000 and this morning I was reversing out of my drive and the exhaust has dropped off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
DG's had just put a new exhaust on for me.
So I'm not too happy at the moment and just about to give them a call.

Oh dear, sorry to hear your problems (email me for a chat, I wont go into details here!).Anyway a quick update, I now have a "9 to 5" but a pretty good one so I cannot complain (I am still laughing at my previous employer actually!).I will however be setting up part time on a much larger scale and will be setting up a decent website (well I'll do my best!) with services I can offer.I am also planning a new workshop .Thanks to everyone for their comments

Cheers

Firstly, I'm sorry Leebee for interupting your thread.

However, it seems that there is some interest in my S so here goes.

I've just reread my last posting and I think I might have had one to many for the road!! Sorry

Things have progressed quite well and some of the components are away being shotblasted and painted.

I am expecting to commence the build shortly, Just finishing off a 4.0L Wrangler Jeep with heavy engine mods before ripping the "S" to bits. (250 BHP with a very throaty exhaust note, Mr Wheeler would be proud)

To answer your question Johno, the base engine is a 4.0L version of our favourite 2.9 but with SOHC instead of OHV.In many ways the engines are similar, certainly in physical size (so the mounts fit)but there are one or two differences that have caused some thought. The 24V Cosworth heads will fit albeit a fair amount of modification is required to perfect the final article. The biggest problem is the exhaust headers, but I'm sure I'll sort it!

The engine is expected to deliver somewhere arong 350BHP so it should be a reasonable performer, but with all these things it doesn't stop there. The rest of the car needs to be considered, hence the elaborate spec of "upgrades"

Harry, you are right, no expense has been spared and including the purchase of the car the total cost is nudging £20K. You might say that to spand such an amount on an "S" is OTT, it probably is, but once the car is finished I think it will be worth the effort. It will certainly be giving 500 Griff perfomance and I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces.

Just to finish answering the questions, the shoxs will be Nitrons, and as for the paint finish I was going to keep it the same BRG, but you have got me thinking. What did you have in mind? I am always open to suggestions. It would have to be a green of some sort.

As for the tyres, I might try to use SO2 or 3 using standards profiles on the front, but 245/16/55 on the rear. This keeps the rolling radius much the same but a larger footprint for the increased performance ala Griff.

If you are interested I will keep you up to date with progress, it should be fun once its finished.

Oh the exhaust, do you have the specs on it? pipe diameter etc

Take care

Mike

Johno,
