Hi Folks

I have just bought a new speedo for my S2, the old one works fine but rattles really badly, particularly under acceleration. (yes i've had it apart & can't sort it, its even been to Speedy)...

Anyway my new speedo has only 2 cables coming out and yet my old one has 3 !!

Is anyone aware of this problem ? my guess would be that I should connect the two red cables to the new 2 (brown & blue)and forget the very thin black one. I will earth it from the casing seperately and am assuming that the thin black may just be an earth...

Any thoughts that might help me tonight ?

Thanks in advance

Hang on, I think the grey one is the earth.....might be wise to check the wring diagrams in the bible

I rang quite a few places, as the speedo's are hard to get hold of. Finally got it from Peninsula Automotive in Cullumpton, Devon. A good price too, ring Richard or Neil on 01884 35341

The new speedo doesn't stack up with the wiring diagrams. I am wondering if it is for a different car such as a V8S or even an early Griff or Chimaera. They have different speed sensors and different wiring.

I would be very careful as one of the wires is 12 volts and the other earth. Getting them the wrong way round could easily blow the speedo /transducer.

I've looked at the numerous wiring diagrams I have but can't see any thing that can help.

Thanks for doing that Steve, I have rung Peninsula who supplied & they reckon the cable not used is just an earth which my seperate casing earth should solve.

As such I will wire it up tonight & do a follow the leader calibration check on it.....if anything is wrong, i will go back to Peninsula and they can find me the right one!

I'll check with a volt meter before i start !
Otherwise its back to the rattle

Cheers

£140 plus VAT for the speedo

I would expect a new rev counter at £120 so lets say secondhand maybe £80 + VAT

Thanks for all the suggestions and research

It has turned out to be the wrong dial and cannot be made to work. Its going back & i'll put up with the rattle for now !!

Thanks again
Giles
