So it's an estate. Many family members to sqeeze into it then. Dogs, children ???

If so...how you going to cope in a S ??

There's some more stuff on S's at my site;

www.geocities.com/peter.nixon

If I had 15K I must say I'd go for a Chimaera or Griffith, you even find Cerbies for that money nowadays...

Just me and the other half so far. It's a handy beastie to have around though - it can hold its own weight in beer. Good for those late-night shopping trips to Tesco's!

As for how to cope in an S - sell my other car and keep the estate!

Thanks for that - I've had a quick look and bookmarked it for a longer look later!

I did consider the Chimaera but it doesn't appeal somehow. The Griffith is still a possibility, but I do quite like the S's. And I can't afford a Tuscan.

I owned my S3C for 6 years and a Chimaera 400 for 3.

The S was great fun and a lovely car - especially after it was decatted and fitted with a sports exhaust.

But the Chimaera was faster, more refined, handled better, demisted in winter better, leaked less - and in my opinion looked loads better too (though the Griff is better still). Insurance and running costs were no more expensive either.

The S was a pain in winter - though maybe you'll just use the anonymous estate car then anyway.

Maybe she's got a Landy now that would be cool..

On the S front.. I think I can safely say that most S owners with available spare funds would trade up to a Griffith/Chimera (barring V8's/modified s's and the like), and very few Griffith/Chimera ownders would trade for an S.. whilst the S is a lovely car if I had 15K I'd be driving a Chimaera now, not my Twin..

Cheers,
Matt

Yeh but the twins thing sets ours apart Matt. I really should post on the Wedge forum to see if the guiy with F906 PRK is still around. It was a red 350i when I saw it at Stanford Hall at Mania '99...'00 ??

Hmm, now that's got me thinking. But my original thinking was go for a decent S of some descrption, then if I like it a lot I could trade up to a Griffith later on. Whereas if I buy a Griffith now and (horrors!) don't like it, I'd be stuck with it for a couple of years until I could sell it on without being accused by my dad of having too much spare cash.

SGirl, Go for the Griff. I'm very envious of your situation i.e. having the available cash. Ask yourself this simple question; would you be happy driving a TVR that can get trounced in straight line by rep-mobiles?

Don't know about a V8S, but it can be quite embarrising in an S2

Mmm, that's the question. Probably not. But then again, I get trounced by rep-mobiles now so not much difference there! If the right Griffith came along I certainly wouldn't rule it out, but the way I see it is that if I start out aiming for an S, if I end up with a Griff then that's a bonus.

Accepting it's not the best place in the world, look at the Autotrader site. There's a Rosso Red Griff 500 for under £15k, a mate had a look at it the other day and thought it was glorious. He's now gone for a Chimp like mine, but.....the only way a rep mob would pass that is at the lights when they couldn't stop !

You might need to put in a 60 mile search from an Uxbridge postcode though, it's in East Sussex.

Pete,

You need to drive it harder. There are very few rep mobiles that will do the 0-60 dash in 6.8 secs like the S will and how many opportunities do you have to start playing at the top end ??

I agree most Rep mobiles these days are quick'ish, but in terms of grunt and acceleration they are not as quick as the S.

Yes Johno.. but there are very few early S's that can do the 0-60 dash in 6.8 secs

They all can... it's just a matter of finding a high enough cliff...

Stop discussing just buy one. Whatever it is. When you do, start saving for the next one.
