Yes Johno.. but there are very few early S's that can do the 0-60 dash in 6.8 secs

They all can... it's just a matter of finding a high enough cliff...

Stop discussing just buy one. Whatever it is. When you do, start saving for the next one.

Steve

Best advice all day !

This has to be quote of the day for me...

"I'm looking for an S but if I "end up" with a Griff thats a bonus"

LMAO...

Oh yes - nice one!! I must be working too hard, didn't spot that one until it was too late!

Steve - you're right. Just as soon as I can find a copy of Top Marques (small village shops don't sell it...) I'll be out there and seeing what I can find that suits.

If you're still thinking about Griff vs V8S and like the Oz wheels I'm thinking of putting my 400 Griff up for sale - to go up to a 500.

Your budget fits mine

E-mail me of line if you're interested - piccy of my baby on my members page

On the S front.. I think I can safely say that most S owners with available spare funds would trade up to a Griffith/Chimera

I didn't.

JSG, I must say the V8 S does appeal to me as well.

Sgirl, you obviously drive a Volvo then? If so, is it white, and were you at the traffic lights at merrimans (nr Stockley Park) today about 5:30?

I do hope it wasn't you.....

If it was I do apologise

Why, what did you do, Dave?! It definitely wasn't me though, so don't worry!

Let's just say I got a bit bored sitting behind her, and made a break for it

She wasnt to happy, but then neither was I having to put up with her weaving around in front of me with her over use of the brake pedal for about a mile while she gassed to her passenger.

So it's not a Volvo then.... Hmmmmm.....

True Matt, but I chose my S3C over a Chim at the time and could have upgraded to a Chim or Griff when I bought the V8S.

That's what I was trying to say anyway For me the later models lack the exclusivity of the S (polite way of putting it). However I reserve the right to change my opinion any time in the future should I buy one

Good! Serves her right. People like that really wind me up! I'd have done exactly the same.

But do I really sound like the kind of person that'd drive like that, then?!

Pete,

You need to drive it harder. There are very few rep mobiles that will do the 0-60 dash in 6.8 secs like the S will and how many opportunities do you have to start playing at the top end ??

I agree most Rep mobiles these days are quick'ish, but in terms of grunt and acceleration they are not as quick as the S.

How hard is hard? There isn't much more I can do, the throttle pedal refuses to travel as far as I'd like it to go. Top end? -let's just say a Vectra started pulling away from me in excess of the 120 mark

The V6 S does start to run out of puff at higher speeds, though I still got mine to the quoted 140 max on a flat bit of road - not a great deal slower than the Chimaera that replaced it.

If the Vectra was a GSi then it would have pulled away, I think even the 0-60 time is as quick. There are some repmobiles nowadays that out-perform the S, but they're few and far between.

Vectra 2.0 GSI will stay behind a V6 powered 'S'. Vectra GSI 2.5 V6 will pull past at 120-130 'ish'.
Who gives a toss though, if the TVR is parked next to a Vectra in the pub car park and ask which one is quickest, what do you think people will say??

Vauxhall never made a 2.0 GSi?

They're all 2.5 and seriously quick cars - but of course they look extremely naff with a horrible bodykit too.

Point was that they would outgun an S nowadays in anything other than a race from the lights (and even then they'd probably win with TC turned on). As would a Mondeo ST200 and many other quicker 'repmobiles'.

The V8 TVR's just have that extra bit of grunt to keep accelerating after most other cars give up. And even then my 4 litre Chimaera felt positively pedestrian after a week in a 4.5 Cerbera. Its all relative...
