I just saw a S3 (S4 ?) with really good looking rear light clusters. Instead of the usual red/white/orange it had just red/grey segments. It didn't appear to be a tinted film or anything.

Has anybody seen this? I don't remember these on Ford Escorts either. I want a set, it would look brilliant on my dark blue S3.

Does anybody know how much these are, there's no price in the S series parts list? And can anybody confirm that they are standard Ford parts?

Many thanks

Andy

As Ford Escorts have been Maxed to within an inch of there lives by the Maxy Muppet Beanie exhaust bunch I imagine you can get all sorts of different style rear light clusters,

How about these?
£95 from www.directcarparts.co.uk/lighting1.htm

I believe they are from the Mk4 Escort RS Turbo... think they were on the Series 2 cars.

Did it look like this...

Podie, you're right. That was exactly what it looked like. I might get a pair, thanks for the link.

I also like the ones raceboy found. They're maybe a tad too "aftermarket" to look good on an S3. It's such a "classic" looking car, and I want to keep it this way. Would be interesting to see them for real, though.

Hmmm, seriously tempted, me....

...and amazed for the umpteenth time about the wealth of information available on PH. Thanks!

No problems mate... if you're interested I'd check out Ford and Ford spares type places as well as scrapyards since they'll have them lying around and probably quite cheap.

Watch out as a lot of the max power brigade have lights "for show use only" which will see you being pulled over! FYI the clear ones that raceboy found are not "e" marked and therefore not approved for use on the road.

The ones that came on the Escort (see pic) ARE approved and were fitted as standard to the car in question...

I would have to find some suitable leopard skin seat covers to go with the rear lights.

pdavison used to have these on his J plate S3 (dark red). He also had smoked side and front indicators. The car looked v good for it IMHO.

I am torn between getting some as I am not a fan of Max Muppet cars and dont want the S to have even a hint of it!

Shnozz, I can understand your concern. But having seen one today with the grey lights, it was a nice subtle change. It kind of looked different but it took me a moment to figure out why.
Do you happen to know where pdavison got the smoked fronts and sides from?

What are the fronts and sides off originally? Then I'll see what other gems I dig up

Raceboy,

What fit are the side repeaters for the Transit van or Fiesta which are the newer and more modern oval shape.

The fronts are from a Sherpa van and if you can find smoked ones of those I'll be stunned !

According to the Parts Guide, the front lenses are from a Leyland DAF Sherpa Van. Performance or aftermarket parts for this particular vehicle may be a bit thin on the ground...

No idea about the repeaters.

Sides are easy, you can just about make out the green ones in my profile picture.
Available from the same places as the rears.

Still working on the Sherpa bits

dont know where pdavison got his. i have tinted my front sherpa indicators with the maxi p spray from halfords (PS - must wear baseball cap to purchase). I have only done them a slight shade of dark as i didnt like the bright orange on my grey S

think i will investigate furhter on the rear lights but v tempted.

Had my smoked rear lights for about 3 years now, just got them from a typical "Fast Ford" place, they were about £55 at the time.Look great with the dark green paintwork!

Cheers

I put a set of clear rear cluster lights on my V8S. they do look very good and change the apperance rear of the car. Makes mine look wider as the lights look bigger, which they aren't

The only problem is, they have to be bonded back in, so I would advise getting hold of some black sealer before you start.
