Brake disc shields

Can anybody tell me where I can obtain front brake disc dust shields please? Are they easy/difficult to fit? My abilities are limited!. Thanks

-don't know where to get them from, but they're easy to fit, just take the wheel off, slip them over the wheelnut studs and replace the wheel. Just check they don't foul the brakes....I think you cut them down to size

shame that I've just thrown the set on my S3 in the bin.....Rather let the brakes breath and clean the wheels more frequently.At least you can see the state of the brakes also...

Roger, check the shields are well clear of the wire clip which retains the outside shoe on the caliper. I checked my brakes yesterday to discover the clip had been worn away to two sharp bits of metal.

You might be better changing to green stuff brake pads as these do not give out as much dust (according to their marketing spiel) and buy a nice new bucket and sponge!

I run an S3 with four shields fitted - they keep the wheels nice and clean! When I needed a replacement, I contacted David Gerald's and they sold me an old one for £5. They had two or three others on top of a cupboard at the time.

A word of warning however, if you frequently drive hard and are heavy on the brakes, the shields will impare cooling and after repeated use brake fade will result. Not funny to discover that the brakes have little effect when you are fast approaching a tight bend at ** mph.

It follows therefore that they should be removed before embarking on any track days, speed tests or sprinting.

Personally I think the top of the cupboard is the best place for them! They do cause premature brake fade and can also hide fluid leaks and make it quite difficult to see how the pads are doing. I like to know things like that.

Not needed on the back unless you have discs as the V6 cars are typically drum. If you have discs, you basically have a V8 (or an S4 or a modified Anniversary Alien one off that was made for David Beckham before he was famous...) which means you want as much braking as possible.

I think some of the S3s came with the four dust shields as standard, at least my S3C did and they were in the handbook.

Well Tower View want to show the car at Duxford... I suspect it will be a last minute rush. I'm going down there this morning to do some work on it. Should be OK for the 17th track day though.

As for Hethel the sprint, pulled out about 10 days ago anyway as I need time to test the car before sprinting it.

The E12 class may or may not happen depending on rumours I've heard about redefining the classes.
