I'm currently looking at buying an S3 and am trying to sort out the variations that occur. My latest discovery is different heater controls; I had previously only seen the black panel with the two sliders and the easy-unstick sticker arrangement. However, I looked at one the other day that had the controls built directly into the walnut with illuminated symbols.

Is this just something I haven't come across previously, or is it unusual?

Thanks

Richard

P.S. I will get round to buying the bible, I promise!

There are other varients including L-R and R-L as well. Is it unusual? I think finding two S series cars exactly the same is probably the most unusual thing you could find!

PS Hurry up and buy the book, I've an engine rebuild to pay for

This is what I was talking about...

The little symbols are also illuminated.

Previously I've only seen the controls with the black plastic panel and the sticker. Are my controls unusual, or have I just led a sheltered life?

Mine has that type, IMHO the best looking of the dashes
I think it was the later, possibily 92 onwards cars ie S3C, S4C & V8SC that had the vent controls incorporated into the veneer.
Buy the book it'll tell you more than you ever want to know , except the wheel nuts' torque setting (which I couldn't find today when I needed it most ).

I've got the book lined up as a birthday present, so that'll be coming in the next few weeks. I'm eagerly anticipating the wealth of knowledge that I'll soon be gaining (and I can then also stop asking stupid questions on PH )

Yes, the later S3's had the sliders built straight into the dash like the V8S. Mine was a 92 J and had this, and I agree it's the best looking.
