Woohoo! Got my gearbox back after going in to have it's 4th synchro put right. It also needed a new bearing apparently and has been put back together with new oils seals all for 210 inc vat which is pretty good (I think). Newbury Transmissions if anyone is interested.

I just have to get some gaskets for each end of the bell-housing and a new clutch and put it all back together.

Ford are proving to be a bit of a pain in the arse thanks to their parts ordering system. Basically what they do (or at least what they did in Redhill where I happened to be on saturday) is put in the part numbers, get the car model from that, get the clutch parts for that car... which are entirely different to mine and not even the same number. Huh?

"So you put in my parts numbers and the result is these parts which don't have the same part numbers as mine?"
"Yes, I guess we must have upgraded to the new parts"
"But the are much smaller, are for a different engine and won't fit"
"Erm, let me show you what I did..."
"So you can't provide me with the right bits even though I have the parts and part numbers here?"
"Erm, no"
:shakes head, counts to 10:

I've got to try the ford dealer in Newbury (more local) who have been more helpful in the past. If they can't find me the parts from the part numbers then I'll get some clutch bits from the factors nearby... getting parts when you have the part numbers and the actual parts in front of you shouldn't be this difficult, surely.

Try QuickCo / Godfrey Davies, Independant Ford (Genuine) Spares dealer, supply the main dealers direct, and carry all parts in stock.

I'll give them a call. I also have a mondeo so that should come in very handy indeed. Thanks very much.

It would appear that the clutch bits are from different cars and ford will only sell kits for a particular car. Part factors are pretty much the same. The obvious answer (which eluded me until this morning) is to call David Gerald who can supply a clutch kit for 114+vat. Doh.

David Gerald is a major star, clutch arrived this morning. I'll make a not of all the part numbers (both ford and borg/becker) and post them here for the faq.
