Heated front screens are available - group buy?
Discussion
Paul ( Glassman) gave me a local contact who got me one in a couple of days (Pilkington), he spent a couple of hours with me doing a trial fit, we came up with what needed doing to the rebates to make it fit, Not seen Paul on here for a bit, he may still lookin from time to time , he may even chip in.

Had mine replaced few years ago, Pilkington, seems to fit quite well but took them a day to fit it, also think they got it within 2 days. Some place in Bham,it was through my insurance. will try and find them if anyone is interested, are they that hard to get then?
Yes please Chris, it would be nice to have a contact who could do a reasonable job of fitting. Mine is currently a superb fit, I don't know if it is original or a replacement.
I would also prefer a top tint if poss, I didn't know that blue was an option.
It is the best colour, obviously

What am I missing? Here's one I did earlier...

This had to be done after the previous installer's two attempts to make it look good failed. A top tinted screen was preferred to the previously clear version.
Hi
Well Paul knows how to do the S windscreen, it's got to be done right and look good when finished. Bet we could find enough quality fitters in each area to form a index for fitting, It's how far will a fitter travel, I have a good fitter thanks to Paul, there must be others who can do the work to a high standard.
I have a Transit for work, needed a new screen for the M.O.T., it was in and out about 6 times before it was right.

It's well worth it to get the job done right first time.
A windscreen wiki sounds like a good idea Alan

Thanks Paul, but that's a fair drive for me. Your place in N.London is closer, but still quite a round trip.
Can you recommend anyone in the Greater Manchester/ Cheshire area?
I have an observation to make about 'S' windscreens.
On my S3 the screen, which will have been replaced some time I suppose,is in reasonable condition with no bad chips and scratches but around the edges there are the first signs of it delaminating. The design of the groove containing the sealant is such that the depth of the sealant does not overlap the top edge of the glass. So it seems to me that this invites moisture to enter at the edges and delamination to happen.
I believe that there was a cost saving made originally by omitting some sort of screen surround .A half inch wide strip of stainless steel would not only finish things off better but could also conceal extra sealant that was now fully covering the edge of the screen all around.
