Exahaust downpipes...

Has anyone bought the exhaust downpipes seperate from the rest of the exhaust? If so how much were they and where did you get them from?

One of mine took a beating from something fairly substantial and they more or less fell apart when I separated them from the exhaust...



The manifolds and the rest of the exhaust look fine so I don't want to replace those.

I bought one a couple of years ago from The TVR Centre in Barnet. I think it was £25 +VAT+postage. That was in mild steel. My new stainless exhaust came with them (in S/S)so they are probably available seperately. I bought it from Wedge Automotive.

I wonder if LeeBee could make some out of scaffold tubing.....they might last a bit better on the wonderful roads this country has......

Go for stainless ones otherwise you'll be replacing them again in 3 years.

you'd need ha hell of a tube bender to do that due to the wall thickness, and I don't think its the right size.... 2" stainless is the way to go.. its a strightforward bend so anyone with acces to a tube bender with 2" forms could knock some up.... I'll be making myself some later in the year along with my own design of sports exhaust

..on the wear front, how about a bit of plate welded/bolted onto the bend to catch the ground instead.. I've got some 14 guage plate welded onto my pipes after the back box so the rear pipe isn't worn away on the roads..

I can supply these in stainless (just done a pair for me ol' mate Gadgit) from memory they are about £65 pair.Titanium skidplates extra!

I'm going to go for mild steel this time around. I realise this may be a false economy in the long run but I'm about to sell the car and I've already recon'd the gearbox and put in a new 150 quid clutch rather than putting back in the only half worn clutch and not telling them about the gearbox so I don't feel too guilty.

Hmm, good price on reflection (having phoned around a couple of places). I've sent you an email Lee asking for price and availability. I'm based north of Newbury so can come and get them if it's easiest. If you mail me I'll get it tonight at home whereas if you reply on here, I'll get it pretty quickly.

PS. How do I tell if the rest of my exhaust is stainless? I've had the car for a year and a half and run it all through winter and the exhaust is still metal coloured, tarnished a fair bit but not rusty... it doesn't look mild steel to me (unlike the downpipes which are rusty brown and flakey). I can dig out a picture if it helps.

Some stainless is non-magnetic, but not always. If a magnet doesn't stick to it it's definitely stainless, if it does stick, it still may be stainless, or it could be mild steel!

I can't imagine so. I suspect it won't include vat either. They'll give me a call when they're made and I'll post the final cost. I should have them in a couple of days.
