My S3 seems to tickover at 1000rpm and want to lower it.On the plenum there is a screw with a locknut.I wound this out and loosened the throttle cable, but to to no joy.Am I missing something?

Ford once told me that the ECU controls the idle speed, and should be 850-900rpm. If your idle speed is 1000rpm, it may be that a sensor is sending incorrect information to the ECU. My bet is the throttle pot. Try disconnecting it and see if the idle speed changes. (The ECU will run the engine in emergency mode).

There is an idle speed control grubber screw on the throttle assembly. But beware, as any adjustment of this adjusts the throttle pot readings...

If the idle is good and the car is running fine then this may be all thats needed but if it is not running well then I would get it checked over.

The rev counter could also be a 100 revs or so out...
If it ain't broke don't fix it...

If you're taking this reading just from the rev counter, beware, as there could be a sizeable error. Check it with an accurate meter.

The idle revs do sound a bit fast,so thought I'd have a try.Just a case of doing something different than painting the 'bloody chassis'.

I had an idling problem with my S recently, I thought I'd have a go myself until I read the S Bible which basically said don't mess!

I took it in to David Geralds and discovered it wasn't anything that I had been looking at!

If it's the engine management system I'd take it in to the pro's, then tell everybody you sorted it!
