It's quite unusual for a Type 9 box to give up after less than 10k miles, and then the replacement to fail after another 30k. These gearboxes are relatively bulletproof, lack of oil is usually the only killer.
I recall a thread on here with Adrian Venn mentioning problems when fitting 2.9 clutch assys
to 2.8 flywheels. ( IIRC )
He had a solution which involved machining a few mm from the inside of the flywheel rear face to allow clearance.
Worth consideration? Adrian ( Adrian@ ) is based in Coventry. Sadly he has decided not to bother with PH any more though.
