Indeed! If I don’t go through all the fuss of undoing all that smoothing, I could mount some of this which is similar and stick the chrome on above it, should hide the gapping caused by the fact it’s not sat in a depression

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161942831071

there are various others of a similar size elsewhere which have been highlighted by you good people!

either way I’ll have to do something to finish the ends which will no doubt involve yet more filler frown
That seems like a reasonably pragmatic approach. The original rubber strip is about 2" wide and 1.5" thick but the recess is 1" deep so if you wanted to go back to the original appearance you'd need to go for something a bit thinner than you linked to. The ends of the original are just chopped off and look pretty crude. I seem to remember somebody described molding their own rubber end pieces to tidy them up.

Well today I did some digging...drilling and chiseling, turns out it was smoothed with an enormous amount of filler,

I’ve started so I’ll finish...need to buy a bigger drill bit to get the bulk out!

Now I really am in need of some rubbers!

Guys,

I originally started this "get some new rubber bumpers" thing and I apologise that I never got around to finishing it. One of the reasons, is we never hit the magic 100m and I wasn't sure if all were willing to pay the higher price for the smaller order quantity.
I also wrote to TVR Parts, asking if they were interested in taking 100m and selling it on their webpage, but I never got a reply.

I am still in contact with the supplier who gave me the original quote and it may be possible to reactivate the whole thing.

The last list looked like this :

1. phillpot 4m
2. TVRees 4m
3. Scubaman04 4m
4. DJR 7 4m
5. Blue 30 4m
6. jerseyjohn 4m
7. arhTVR 4m
8. mstrutt 4m
9. Deeman 4m
10. Han 4m
11. mk1fan 8m
12. oldgeebee 4m
13. greenranger (steve cool) 4m
14. TCEvo 4m
15. Fozzy280472 4m

so, that is 64m in total.

The BIG question is How many people are still interested ?

Maybe we should start a new list ?

Needless to say I too am a CONFIRMED addition to the list, also let me know if you need a hand get a 2D drawing out for the extrusion, I’ve made many a seal section drawing.... if your section was 1:1 traced it can be checked on a shadow graph 10:1 back to a slice of the original and 2D cad drawing to make sure it’s a good match, it will of course depend on the quality/condition of the slice of rubber used!

Cheers
Joe

scratchchin I thought it looked too cloudy and orangey in colour.
A healthy sample is supposed to be clear and a pale straw gold.

If I were you, I'd cut down on the booze and drink a lot more water. wink

I think "Green Ranger can come off the list, he's sold his S.

This isn't going to help get up to 100 metres but will bring the price per person/car down, cut carefully I reckon 3 metres would be enough?

Was same stuff used on the rear of early Chimaera's scratchchin

Bumper Bump
You may have seen on the Facebook pages that we are close to getting some new bumper rubbers made!
Andrew Gray has been working hard on our behalf, and used a section of my front bumper as a guide. I’m hoping we will have the original D section, including the lip which holds the steel strip for fixing, inside. Further details from Andrew, below.

We have been working of developing new parts for a number of the early pre 80s cars and a number of pre 80s owners also have later S series cars.

We have been asked if we would put the S series bumper D section into production and this is now well on its way to being ready.

We have the tooling being made and hope to have stock in the next 6 weeks.

Its being a little slower dues to the lock down however the factory are open with limited staff as they are also involved with making PPE for retail outlets that are still open.

If you would like some please get in touch and we will add you to the list. We will be supplying it in 4 meter lengths and final cost although not all costed up will be aprox £120 plus VAT delivered in the UK

Thanks for the update. Will these also fit the rear (if so count me in)?

Yes. The 4 metre length is enough to do all four corners.
