Can anyone tell me the make of the "mechanical" boot strut as fitted to my S2 and as shown on p.256 of the "bible".
I would prefer to replace with an original type rather than the gas model that I believe some other "S" owners have fitted.
Thanks

The gas strut was standard fit for very late S2's andall other S's thereafter.

The mechanical hinge is a standard cabinet hinge and can be bought from most decent hardware/iron monger type places...

I am now on my third (broken again) machanical one and keep swearing to change to a gas strut as in IMHO the mechanical one is crap if you open your boot more twice a decade.

Thanks Johno for the reply.
I can see where there is a bracket fibreglassed on at the lower end of the boot well skirt and a couple of holes in the boot lid, that's why I was trying to get an original.(its only about 7"o/a)! (the boot strut)!!
I did write to Gas strut Engineering (from a previous thread) and they promptly sent me by fax an enquiry sheet but from this the type of end fittings they showed were nothing like what I would need therefore I dropped that line of enquiry.
I seem to recall that the Triumph Spitfire had a similar fitting and this was pretty robust - it looks like a trip around the "scrappies"
Cheers.
