Hi all

I am currently looking at replacing my cradle tank for my car and thought that others may want to take advantage of this potential opportunity as a group buy and reduce costs. My cradle tank, like most I'm sure, is ropey/rusty and seen better days, so I took it to a company near me and asked them to replicate it in 304 Stainless Steel.

Well, I went to see it today and I must say I'm pretty pleased with the results, just a little fettling and it will be completed for next week.

Please view the pics attached, as i would appreciate your feedback, more importantly I feel this may be a good opportunity for a group buy if others are interested. I have spoken to the company and they are happy to review costs depending on numbers required.

The benefits versus a mild steel one, is that there is no need for paint or matching the colour, it will last the life time of the car and will not rust, looks aesthetically pleasing and will stay that way, also much stronger.

After looking at obtaining a new one in mild steel, it seems the cradle tank retails for around £150.00+VAT and then you gotta get it powder coated/painted. Therefore I am guessing the total all in cost would be roughly £200.00-£220.00 for mild steel.

I have been quoted £295.00 for mine and I reckon with a few of us wanting one for our cars, this could decrease considerably, however I require genuinely interested parties to show their interest, so I can negotiate further. I am happy to take this forward further and update you all once numbers secured, I can then get a better costing and look into postage also and find out lead times etc...

Just gauging initial interest at present and look forward to your replies, hoping those roofs are down and making use of this weather fellow Tivers!!!...??

All the best

Lee

Nice!

Have you considered making some improvements over the standard design?

I would look at capping the open ends of the upright box sections and rather than big hole little hole where it bolts to the chassis have two little holes with a piece of tube in between to prevent any crushing and, of course, longer bolts.

I appreciate that ingress of water and general crap is not such an issue now it is stainless but it would, imho, look more "finished" wink

Either way, well done that man thumbup

Thanks for the feedback philpot, much appreciated!

I have thought about what you suggested, If you zoom in on the photo(up right on the right), you will see an end cap (only had one...lol!) and I've got rubber bungs for the round holes.

When I get the finished item next week hopefully, I will be putting a more detailed picture on, which will show everything.

Thanks again, all the best Lee
