Hi Richard, YHM smile

I'm willing to take the gamble. I'm old and deaf anyway. And a sucker for a bargain, especially if it gives me a buzz wink
You are supposed to use it to change gear with Glen!!eek

Just fitted the short shifter and gone out for a test drive. It's literally like driving a different car. Completely sorts out the 80s saloon car gear change and turns it into a precise, short throw, sports shift. Do not, for one second, hesitate to fit this to your S. Thanks Richard

+1 thumbup Torally agree!
I've just fitted mine, along with the Montego rubber gearstick bellows from Rimmerworld that Joe linked to a while back.

I quite agree, the difference is amazing:

It's like the bolt action on my old Lee Enfield .303 rifle: slick, positive and smooth. cloud9
I just took it for a short test drive but only got up to a maximum of 50 mph, so time will tell if it buzzes at speed. If it does, I'll get a 'We Love Manchester' Bee sticker to put on my knob. wink

I am so pleased with it, I treated myself to a nice cuppa.

Here is a picture for those interested:

Thanks Richard. bow.

That "big lump" on the original sticks is a rubber damper developed by Ford many years ago to help reduce gear lever "tizz". with all the others noises, rattles and squeaks going on in the average S it may not be such an issue scratchchin

It is indeed, yeah.

Most Sierras were 4-cyl though, and where the S is a V6 it's fortunately a bit smoother. Only had the one issue, as mentioned above, but we're all ears for issues or thoughts people have. smile

Evening folks, been a while but got out for a bit of a drive with my quickshifter fitted, only the 2nd proper one due to other issues which have been getting sorted. Unfortunately mine produces a pretty raucous buzz with revs above 3000 in any of the forward gear selections, but particularly 3rd. It doesn't seem to be rubbing on anything and if I apply a bit of pressure to it in any direction or push down on it then I can stop it, but it is rather loud. Has anyone any experience of this? I see Mike mentions a buzz above, but been all the back through the thread and couldn't find the detail about it.

My S2 was terrible for that using the original TVR shifter. I assume the lever itself was flexing at the bend and hitting resonance.

I had a similar experience with mine however, after speaking with Richard he sent a replacement lever and that's been fine.
Maybe it's down to machining tolerances.

Yes I fitted one to my new quickshifter. I used an old steering rack gaiter cut to size, it fitted perfectly.

thats normal for those quickshift levers..

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-5-SPEED-TYPE-9-QUI...

.all do it...as those shifters are mainly used in seven-ish kitcars like locost, westfield sylva or escort rally cars.... nobody in such cars is recognizing it as the other noises seem to cover-up the gearstick noise.

using this kit on your original ford shifter combines both: retaining the noise absorbing elements from the ford shifter plus getting the quicker gear-selection...

by the way: your saddle inside the gearbox is still fitted and intact? this can also be an issue for noise

this said: Burton is listing above shifter for double the price (100,-pound) as a quiet model

https://www.burtonpower.com/quickshift-gear-lever-...

and here it seems a solutuon for the typical rattle:

Unfortunately, mine's the same and I've had to go back to the original. Looks like the ring that seals the ball has failed, as there's about 1mm of play in the ball.

Anyone tried the 'spacer' version from Burton?

My Quickshif shift also suffered the dreaded zizz. I bought a CV boot from Car Builder Solutions for about £8. About the smallest they do. Packed it with grease and now zip tied top and bottom. Easy fix and problem 95% solved.

I think its due to play in the spherical bearing, so any thing that puts either a compressive or tensile force however slight alleviates the problem.
