TVR S2 Differential
Discussion
Hello,
For several weeks, when running at the normal temperature, I heard a knoking while accelerating on my 1990 TVR S2.
I thougt this was coming from the universal joints of the driveshafts... But it was not. My differential is totaly dead. It lost all its oil, has 1 inch of play. When I removed the plug to add some oil (to drive the car home), there was some metal flakes on it...
I cannot find where doese this part come from. Doese any one here knows what diff is it and how to find one, or at least, it's parts?
Thanks you!

It's just a ford 7.5" diff commonly found on the sierra.
You want a standard 3.64 ratio with 100mm drive flanges.
The lsd off an early Granada cosworth fits but these are pretty rare now.
Any good diff and gearbox place should be able to rebuild for you.
You can also fit a 7" if you can't find the 7.5.
Hope that helps some

Just had a quick look at some scrapheaps here in Sweden and spotted a few 7,5" 3:64 ratio going for up to 1500 sek, so not that bad price
I actually bought a thermostat housing for my S2 from these guys last year. Even though my Swedish is not that good , we still managed to get the part successfully delivered to Hungary.Recommended .......

About £130? Around the same as they go for here in UK, doesn't seem long ago you could get a Scorpio Viscous LSD one for that money!
I presume the 2000 Euro quote was a polite way of saying "we don't want the job"

I've got a good used spare with about 65k miles on it.
I open mine Wednesday. If it is really dead, I think I'll be likely to replace it. PS: Mine was 65K too. But I presume something weird happened to it.Fun fact, In France, British cars have the reputation to be fragile, but for the moment, it is only the Ford parts that needs to be replaced...

Mine is getting on for twice that mileage, and a good bit of brutal use in that as well. Showing a bit of backlash now though.Nostalgia, but the best car I ever owned was French (Renault 20 2.2) and the worst was British (Triumph Toledo). Mind you I will always have a soft spot for a little blue A35 van.....some adventures in that!

You must have had some sh#t cars
Oh I certainly did Mike, picked up at auctions for peanuts and flogged to death. Even an AutoUnion and a Champ! My Renault 20 was the later 2.2engined TX with the later type 5 speed box. It was good for 110 (very good in those days) steady as a rock in quite and comfort and would take a family of five on holiday with ease and tow a caravan easily. Very clever interior for driving or sleeping!. Handled incredibly well for a car of the time. Utterly reliable and electric everything from sunroof to seats (in those days Renault electrics were amongst the best, not so later ones). Did a ton of miles in it. OK, not a patch on moderns but an outstanding car in 1980. The early cars rusted badly but the later cars were better than most others. Gassing Station | S Series | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
