Hi,
did anyone ever change the lock for the glove box in a V8s (see pics)
I want to change to a normal lock with key.

Have a look at our friendly and helpful Car Builder Solutions, they have a massive range of helpful stuff. There is one possible option below but search their catalogue. Make yourself a Christmas list (but do mention TVR club recommended you please).

This link might be helpful - UK company and most lock bodies have interchangeable tails.

Still curious why you want a "proper" key but how about these.............

this one, can only imagine the dimensions ( 71.7 x 45.7 x 37 cm) are with it in the bag?
or this one?

There's nothing there identical to the standard fitment (which might be by Emka ) but what you can do is choose a body which fits the door (glovebox) then remove and/or modify the tail - even fitting a cranked tail - to suit. There's at least one cylinder which has an overall length of circa 40mm so it's almost there.

Replacement keys are available if that is the reason for change.

My reason is that a "normal" key will stay in the lock when I open and close the glove-box. The main benefit will be for closing, with a key I'd be able to hold the lid in place with the key while I turn it making closing a one-handed job.

Can't you already do that with the existing key?

If not, perhaps you could figure out some sort of counterweight/spring/strut arrangement.

...bear in mind that your passenger may not be able to open the glove box when you are driving along if you have a special key which is attached to your key ring...in the ignition at the time... wink
