Hmmm, until someone proves otherwise, my belief is that the later Mazda ones are not an easy fit.
Might be worth a glance at the Car Builder Solutions range of mirrors, looks like it has expanded. I prefer body colour matched mirrors or black on this car and the MX5 Mk1 is easily painted. However there are a couple of others in this catalogue which might actually be quite good. I suspect the GT mirror M19BK might not allow the glass to turn enough to be used as a near side mirror, but without seeing it ..... A problem on the S is that the doors are very short and the driver is closer to the mirror than they would be on most cars so the left hand mirror has to angle quite a lot and many wont.

It's one of the reasons I love the Fiesta/Escort arrangement (I think Mike 'Philpot' was the first to do it, or certainly in the forum eye). It looks right, and more 'period' than all the others, and the visibility is much improved.

Couldn't be worse though, could it? laugh

I can see a couple of other possible issues Richard......

At £14.40 a pair they may not be the best quality mirrors around................ and they look cr#p (imho) smile

I'm not sure they'd be an improvement on the OE ones hehe

You may well be right! The originals on the S1 were crap, possibly accessory parts bin stuff, and I certainly wouldn't like to repeat that!

However CBS have brought some good stuff in and they have been very helpful indeed, even to the extent of providing me with some parts on loan to evaluate when we were struggling for a couple of items. I know they have provided solutions to a lot of S owners already (they even have one of my 'good idea' tips in their catalogue, and I didnt charge either!).

I don't know if any of these are any good, but amongst their offerings MAY be a pearl that would provide a good solution. Next time they are going to a show I can visit I will ask them to bring a range of mirrors to evaluate.

I am NOT changing the MX5 ones on mine!!!

(I think they add a bit of class over those mere Ford ones blah) biglaugh

Still think you're trying to find a solution to a problem that doesn't exist !

MX5, cheap as chips and being Mazda should be well made. The big plus being they near as damn it cover the hole from the originals so no paintwork required.

early Ford, look best but genuine are getting scarce/expensive. Repro satin black seem ok but the "stainless steel" ones I bought for the Taimar went rusty irked

Surprised there aren't more people trying Tex MGB mirrors. Think I have a pair "somewhere" if any one wants to?

Rubbish! laugh I've finally found the pair of Mk2 MK5 mirrors I put in a "safe" place a few years ago.

As you'll see from the photos these are manual and at 48mm wide should easily cover the old hole. There is a small loacating pin so you could either drill a locating hole in the door or chop the pin off as you wish. IMHO these look a lot smarter than the Mk1 mirrors.

Will these not point towards the ground when fitted?

Not if I fitted them!

Whatever makes you think that?

I may end having to eat humble pie here. With nothing better to do this morning I offered one of the mirrors up to the door and the angle just isn't right. They don't point at the ground but they certainly don't point where you'd want them to, and would definitely look odd. If I can get them apart it might be possible to swap the mounts over which would give a better mounting angle on the door.

That would do it. Getting the angle right will be the tricky bit.

There is a cunning device called a protractor that can be used to measure angles... wink

Probably, but I'm not that technically advanced when it comes to Apps and IT stuff.

"Clinometer" springs to mind. ( short for "inclinometer" ). It's a device we used for setting aircraft wing dihedral angles and that sort of stuff back in the early Neolithic Period. wink

Never mind all that technical nonsense. I reckon moulding once of of Plasticine and then using that to make one in glass fibre is the way to do it. Of course if I had a 3D printer it would be even easier laugh

Has anyone tried making adapters to fit the corrado mirrors to the S1/2 ? I know something was produced to convert the CX mirrors to corrado ones a few years ago as they were used to adapt them on the Griffiths etc. If you look at the tamora's etc they use the vw corrado mirrors with an extension piece/adaptor. I wonder if those adaptors could be adapted !? A 3D printer would be probably be able to do it ?

The S series is known for taking TVR back to curves rather than the straight lines of the preceding wedges. As a result I think they suit curved mirrors without swage lines which a lot of the modern units have. The early mx5 units suit well in my opinion but the VW units are probably what would have been fitted if they made an S5 ?
