The recent faffing around with the fuel pump relay has made me appreciate just how awkward it is to reattach the carpet over the passenger's footwell. On mine it involves man-handling the mass of relays, wiring, ECU etc into position and then trying to get two self-tappers to engage in pilot holes that are hidden under the leather trim, while supporting the weight of the electrics with a spare hand.

I was wondering if anyone has come up with any better ideas - maybe pip pins or something like that?

I found the carpet would never stay in place and ket dropping down spilling the electrics out.

I used an old bootlace to hold the relays and cables in place and then the carpet went back into position easily.

BTW mine just seemed to 'slot' in under the bottom of the glove box, no sign of any screws, is yours different?

The S3 had velcro to hold it up - that didn't work either.

Cheers,
John.

I got so p*ssed off with it that I eventually just cable-tied the whole lot up in the gap and then put the panel of carpet in. It may not be that useful for when I need to fix anything but having said that as it's not all knocking about then less stuff should fail.

Mine WAS a shambles. When I first went looking the whole lot fell to the floor doing an impression of a giants entrails. I have taped the mess into a loom and hooked it up with 3 or 4 cable ties. If I need to investigate the wiring again, I'll just cut the ties and replace afterwards. I've glued the carpet that fell off the glove box with UHU glue. It's still there.

As the passenger footwell carpet needed renewing, when this was done I also had the carpet that is against the inside wing area replaced, where the wiring "loom" can be seen I had this section attached with wide Velcro strips for easy access.
To ensure that the carpet flap presently secured via velcro where the fuses are doesn't fall down, drill a hole up through the flap into the glovebox and drop down a suitably long bolt and finish with a brass wing nut. The fuse box and EMU are further secured with double sided velcro strips - it all seems to work well.
